There doesn't seem to be a forum specifically for talking about Animal Crossing that doesn't involve trading or friend codes, so this'll have to be the place for this.
There are a number of little features in the game that are not immediately obvious, but are certainly worth knowing. This is intended to be a listing of some of them. If anyone finds some others, let us know in a reply to this message....
- You can change the bed in your bedroom! Approach it from a direction other than the side and press A, and the game will give you the option. You won't be able to do it unless you already have another bed in your inventory.
- If you have friends over in your town, you can initiate a "backup" save for everybody by pressing Start and selecting "Save & Continue." There is no need to do this when someone enters your town however, because the game saves for everyone automatically whenever someone enters or leaves. Note that you cannot save if you're a visitor, but pressing Start will automatically cause you to ask for a save!
- In the Gamecube version, it was possible to befriend Sable, the surly porcupine working at Able Sisters, if you spoke with her enough, and it looks likely you can do the same here. Don't speak with her over and over again on the same day however; it takes a long time to earn her trust. (Possibly, the number of patterns designed over time also plays a role.)
- The dump is gone, but in its place is a recycling bin in Town Hall that fulfills all the same purposes. Further, it seems to get stocked with random throwaway items fairly frequently, so be sure to check it often!
- Wendell exists in the game, but he no longer gives out rare wallpaper. Instead, different food items you give (word is, not just fish) him cause him to give you different patterns.
- There's a rumor going around that drinking coffee will increase your movement speed a bit. There's another rumor that Kapp'n sometimes drops by the cafe. Neither of these are confirmed by me.
