I don't think 480p has actually been confirmed. And considering that Nintendo thought it was too "High Dollar" for the GameCube, I don't know why anyone seems to think it's a safe bet.
It's been confirmed that the Rev
cannot do 1080i.
It's been confirmed that the Rev
cannot do 720p.
It's been confirmed that the Rev
cannot even do 720i.
It's been confirmed that the Rev
cannot connect to a computer monitor, and do typical PC resolutions like 1024x768, or even 800x600 (despite earlier "confirmations" saying that it could).
It's been confirmed that (even if the Rev uses holograms) it
will be able to connect to a TV
somehow, at least in order to let you play overpriced NES ROMs on the "virtual console" system.
This seems to leave the absolute best-case (and IMO unlikely) scenario of the Rev doing 480p, which everyone seems to be clinging to, but Nintendo doesn't want to talk about.
I'd say that 480i, through Stereo-AV or S-Video cables is the most likely.
However, there are even rumors saying that Nintendo will embrace a "wireless" TV hookup with the Revolution, which may have image quality comparable to a freaking RF Switch (which will make those NES games seem all that much more authentic). But hey, it'll be wireless, and wireless is the future. Even if it looks like the NES.
