Konno Talks Mario Kart, WiFi Nintendogs
« on: November 07, 2005, 06:58:13 AM »
The veteran EAD producer also mentions what he has cooking on Revolution.

Game|Life, Chris Kohler's new gaming blog for Wired News, has a revealing new interview with Hideki Konno, Producer at Nintendo EAD and the man in charge of both Nintendogs and Mario Kart DS.  Here are a couple of choice excerpts:

Game|Life: Any plans for Nintendogs on Wi-Fi?

Konno: We have a lot of ideas (laughs). That's the next thing we'd like to tackle. So there are a lot of things that I'm looking forward to addressing in regards to that question.

Note: Game|Life stresses that the following quote pertains only to a working tech demo, not an actual game in full development...

Konno: ...We have this game with a big wok that you use to cook Chinese food, and it's really interesting to have the meat and vegetables frying in there, and use the controller to flip the food around without it spilling out of the pan.

Check out the full interview for more info on the development of Mario Kart DS and Nintendogs!

Nintendogs online?  Ehh....It'd be a bit dissapointing for them to release another Nintendogs game, it's the kind of game that doesn't really need a sequal....unless it's for the Rev =o

Cooking game though =D!  Joy!

I think a cooking game would irritate me in the same way cooking shows do.  You get to see all this great food (and prepare it yourself in this case) but you can't eat it!  ARRRGH!

Who knows what could be accomplished with a heating wok controller attachment?

Me thinks that cooking game should be packed in the REV for free.  If you power on the Rev without a game in it, you get a little set of party games.

That would be kinda awesome.

Just some fun, simple games you can use to lure unsuspecting parents/siblings/friends into the fold.

Even better, make the boot-up screen itself a non-game minigame. Remember how much time you spent pulling on Mario's face in Mario 64? If only everyone was offered a similar experience on boot-up with the Rev that incorporated the controller, that would be... awesome!

Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;

It would be neat to have that cooking game that actually teaches you how to cook and using wifi you can download new recipes so you can learn to cook more things.  Revolution saves the lives of several singles who didn't know how to make food for themselves.

The image of trying to play online is that it's complicated, and the Japanese are worried about having to deal with people they don't want to, having people say nasty things over the internet. So the three things we're trying to emphasize with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection are: easy access, worry-free, and free of charge

I didn't know that Japanese people were afraid of playing online. But it seems their Korean and Chinese neighbors relish it (Too much maybe, but that's another story...).

Over here, the words online play or online content gives it a better selling point.  As he mentions later, they'll have push Mario Kart DS some other way.  More limited edition colors to make DS owners stateside envious perhaps?

I think Mario Kart will do just fine in Japan without more colours or other such incentives...

With young males, maybe, but probably not so much with parents.

I agree....I'm imagining a boot-up screen that utilizes a mouse pointer that can move about in 3-d space. Imagine a DS-like boot-up screen with options like 'main game' 'download center' 'options' etc, and imagine these options being represented as transparent boxes that stretch back into infinity. And then imagine selecting which option you want with a pointer that can move not only up/down/left/right but also forwards and backwards, just for fun.

It needs a built in game like Alex the Kidd in Miracle World. I would be so stingy as to never buy a game if this was the case though....
