NES Micro - homemade handheld
« on: October 16, 2005, 10:40:02 AM »
look here

this thing looks pretty sweet, and it just a little bigger than a micro(on the front), but about 2.5x thicker, check the link for pics, it actually looks prett good. And yes it takes NES carts.

I seem to be missing how this is related to the DS or GBA, but the design on that is excellent, although I do miss the thin, square, Start and Select buttons found on the NES controller.

It's a portable 1986 NES, inspired by the Gameboy Micro.

Of course, "portable" is relative. Based on its thickness and size, i'd say its about as portable as a house brick Unlike the actual micro

NES Micro compared to GBA Micro (Micro simulated as there's no way I'd buy one of those things)

He has no problem with going through all the time and effort to make his own handheld NES but there's NO way he would buy a micro...that seems a bit odd to me.  You would think that there would at least be a chance he would get one...but he does say he's cheap so whatever.

He may be cheap, but he's definately not lazy

besides I wouldn't pay more than $50.00 for a micro as long as it doesn't incluse the play-yan built in

The portability of that unit is kind of killed when you consider how insanely huge the NES carts are.  The system fits right in my pocket!  And my games fit right in this large briefcase!

And that's where the GC disc size will become an advantage in the future.

You didn't? Shame that you probably read all of his negative, serious posts, but missed some of his more light-hearted ones. Like when we were talking about pulling the NRC to open a door in Zelda, and Ian was saying that he would rather push a button. Then when  someone asked if he wanted to go through life pushing buttons instead of opening real doors themselves, he said something like "Well, there are those handicap buttons in public buildings." You can't say he doesn't have a sense of humour.
