The PSP is doomed anyway. At least it is as a game system or as a competitor to the DS. Sony has killed the thing's momentum by rather blantantly treating it as a sh!tty proprietary movie player first, videogame system second.

I know Japan got Winning Eleven 9 for PSP. It's done pretty well (157,000 copies in 4 weeks). I think that's it for Japan. Nothing comes to mind when I think of US releases. Burnout Legends--that's about it.

How could anyone think it could even compare, I mean holy crap, the 30GB Video iPod costs just a bit more than a 2GB memory stick for the PSP.

I think Apple is being alittle too desperate for these Ipod models. Actually another factor of the PSP's demise can be the PS2 and PS3 just look at how back in E3 Sony left their handheld ripe and open to compeditor attack (Nintendo) infavor of showing off PS2 games and PS3 showcase and Nintendo just had a TKO in the handheld presentation. And it still shows it, Sony screwed themselves ultimately with teptid support and killer apps being duds. And if Nintendo Wi-Fi connection gathers a lot of steam with more titles, PSP is going to meet its demise.

The only way I see this not hurting the PSP is if the darn thing doesn't play music w/o the moving pictures, which would be too funny to actually happen and is also completely illogical.
But the thing about GTA:LCS is that I hear people saying that it'll be the best game ever and will put the PSP ahead of the DS, but I'll bet that 90% of people who want it already have a PSP.

[on tangent] The GTA LC does boast multiplayer, a franchise first. Make it on-line play, and that should push some hardware.
Capcom's got a series of re-makes in the pipeline that they showed at TGS. There's the Mega man 1 re-make with really big heads, coupled with a level editor. There's the Mega Man X remake with what seems to be 3d polys in 2d. And finally there's the Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the masochistic. That should get some hard-core gamers in line.
If Sony doesn't show anything really new with games by e3 2k6, one could chalk up this system for just a piracy-inclined machine. [/off tangent]

On topic, is there really a market for an iTunes for videos? Sounds like more of a counter measure for those who download their favorite shows and music videos via the usual 'dubious' methods...

Can Apple repeat the whole iPod craze with this device?

There is no need to repeat anything. This is NOT new video centered iPod. It's just a new iPod that has a new feature. It's still focused on music. It isn't a media player, it's a music player. It's not the iPod Video, it's just an iPod that plays video. There's a big difference.

It's Wi-Fi only. No online multiplayer.

There was a helper to find the others in GTA 1 and 2, an arrow pointing in their direction. However, it still took minutes to find them and only seconds until there was only one survivor. Most of the time was spent finding a car to get to them and then driving to them. Since combat in the GTA games isn't particularly sophisticated and definitely weaker than, say, Quake and just causing random havoc for points is boring after five minutes that's not an engaging game. Sure, you might find a few moments that are absolutely memorable but the rest of the match sucks so bad you won't try it again.

Your points are valid, but they're also a bit flawed. The multiplayer add-ons for past GTA games are all user-created mods. While I have no proof to back this up, I certainly hope that Rockstar could come up with something better in terms of multiplayer. If not, they I don't see it catching on anytime soon.

Interesting. What would be cheaper in the long run? A boxed set of [insert TV show] or download episodes via iTunes? I've been out of the TV loop, so I don't know how many episodes make up an average season. iTunes could be a cheap, no-frills solution to boxed sets with all the extras. I'm safely assuming there won't be any commericals when you download them to your video iPod....

Season 1 of DH had 23 episodes. That comes out to about $45 to download them all. No commercials. The DVD set goes for $39 on Amazon.

So there's a small premium in the end, but you get the immediacy of downloading it the next day after it airs (for the current season). Good if you miss an episode. But the 320x240 resolution doesn't get me too excited. I suspect Apple will some day release a "real" Video-Pod when the infrastructure is in place to download mass movies.

Also with the Ipod you could download from some...unauthorized sources...P2P, bit torrent, etc., for free and avoid all the charges, and since it has a 30 or 60 GB HD its far better than the PSP at storing large amounts of video.
