Dual controller ideas?
« on: September 20, 2005, 03:22:13 PM »
If any of you thought about how to effectively use two NRC's in a game, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a boxing game like Super Punch Out!. Indeed that would be a hell of a game, but it is a pretty obvious answer.

What about a Gladiator type game? Where one controller is your sheild, while the others your sword (or maybe another weapon).

The controls could be something like this:

D-Pad on either NRC: controls movement (forward, backward, strafing).

The sword NRC: Moving the camera about like a mouse will control the camera (Or maybe even locked on to an enemy like Z-targeting). Hold the B button and perform a swing to swing your sword. While you are holding B, any action you do will be replicated. If you wanted to stab yourself you could. The A button would perform various simple kicks.

The shield NRC: Held vertically. Move your sheild as you would a real one. You can even swing your sheild as if a weapon.

Other D-Pad: Various functions.

Voila, you have a very intuitive, very realistic Gladiator brawler.

You know in the boxing game or a fighting game with two controllers you would only need one button (for a fighing game for jump). They could come out with an expansion to the controller that plugs into the controller and securely snaps the contrller in place so you can put a controller on each hand. Since the Revolution can map where the controllers are in a boxing game only a start button would be needed since it can sense by where the controllers are whether you are moving side to side, punching, upper cutting, etc. (Imagine the exercise....)

For a fighter such as Virtua Fighter have a simular set up. (Ok I'm going into the unknow since I don't really know if this is possible) But add on strap with a simular diode as the controllers use and have them on your knees. (One way to do this is use up all four controller positions virtually, so this would  be one player per console, but multiplayer can be done by the "LAN" capibility of the Revolution. (At least if they haven't trashed it were Revolutions can talk directly with each other for LAN type games.))

For a DDR type game you wouldn't even need a dance pad with this type of configuration.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

If you think about it what Nintendo is doing with the controller is basically low end motion capture, so there is alot of possiblites especially since they "let" the developers decide how to use multiple controllers which just makes the motion capture more percise.

I'm going to cover some more off the wall speculation in my "in-depth" post I hope to have up late tomorrow. (I'm at work, and really shouldn't be, but it's late night all I basically have to do is bookwork. )
