Lastly, walking around booths you tend to see things you probably shouldn’t see as of yet. I’m not going to spoil the surprise but…Sega will have something EXTRA special at this year’s TGS..and it’s not arcade or software related…

SEGA PARTNERS WITH BIZARRE CREATIONS TO CREATE NEXT-GENERATION FRANCHISE

Developer of Project Gotham Racing to Drive SEGA Growth

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (September 16th, 2005) - SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. today announced a partnership to create a next-generation franchise with Bizarre Creations, the renowned UK-based developer responsible for such hugely recognizable titles as Project Gotham Racing 1&2 (Xbox), Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360), Formula 1 (PlayStation), and Metropolis Street Racer (Dreamcast). The partnership adds more next-generation content to SEGA’s expanding lineup of titles developed specifically for Western audiences.

Under the terms of the worldwide exclusive deal, SEGA will manage all marketing and distribution activities and work with Bizarre in the ongoing production of the Developer’s latest innovative design. This agreement further underscores SEGA's emphasis on Western markets as evidenced by recent SEGA deals with external developers Silicon Knights, Petroglyph, Secret Level, Pseudo Interactive, Sports Interactive, and Monolith.
“We are actively seeking partnerships with the world’s best developers to create brand new franchises and re-create new games from existing SEGA IP,” said Naoya Tsurumi, CEO of SEGA America and SEGA Europe. “We could not be happier that Bizarre Creations, a world-leader in successfully combining gameplay and technology, chose SEGA as their publishing partner to create a multi-platform blockbuster for the next-generation.”

“We are privileged to be working with SEGA again,” said Martyn Chudley, Managing Director of Bizarre Creations. “With their passion for games and forward-thinking approach, they are the ideal partner to make the most of our new concept.”
SEGA and Bizarre Creations have decided not to release product, platform, or release details at this time.

That can't be the extra special announcement, can it?  It'd be software related then, right?

Bill, I was just going to say the same thing.

A new Sega console? Seems unlikely. I mean, come on, Sega's games didn't sell that much on this generation. Maybe Sammy sold Sega and somebody else bought it?

I still would love Sega to announce a partnership with Nintendo.

Perhaps its that Sega is allowing downloads to the Nintendo Revolution...it isn't exactly software related.

Or I think Sega would be a great partner with Nintendo.  Under Nintendo's guidance and direction Sega's creative teams could make amazingly fun games that have that Nintendo polish.

Also Sega could enter into the toy business and self produce and publish those TV games that are becoming popular.

Stevey:  That isn't completely true.  Sega wasn't batting AAA titles on the Dreamcast.  If they were then Dreamcast would have done much better.

Instead Dreamcast was the console of the experimental games.  Some turned out great.  But none of them was flawless.

One of the most hyped games Jet Grind Radio had horrible camera issues that made the game very difficult to play when the police started after you.

I think several people look at the Dreamcast with rose colored glasses, and revisionist ideas about the console.

Indeed, I recently bought a Dreamcast because I was like "Yeah it was awesome back then too bad it tanked" and now I realize why....There just aren't many good gamess for it.  The Dreamcast was really a mediocre system.

If Sega were to release a new console, wouldn't they want Sonic exclusivity?  This isn't a new console, because even Sega knows that new console = flop.

just to throw out an idea(I saw it mentioned in part somewhere else)....

rmember when MS talked about liscensing out the X360, and the rumors about new hardware from Sega...

what if the Sega news is that they have liscensed X360 for release in Japan under the Sega name for better branding in Japan?

I know its kinda crazy, but I thought I would just throw it out there as a possibility before the actual news was revealed.

think its possible? nevermind that is just stupid, forget I brought it up...

I'd say there were some good games from it, although hardly any of them came from Sega itself. It was mostly Capcom, although if one doesn't like fighters then it was mostly a dead system. However, it was fully worth the purchase for Marvel vs. Capcom (1 & 2) in my eyes.

Anyway, Sega trying to make another console would be a horrible choice, as they have lost tons of fans, but it would be interesting to see the effect it had on the other three systems.

It doesn't have to be a home console.

I know the market is already oversaturated, but....a $200 Sega handheld with PSP-quality graphics and touch screen [edit: and true 3D] might work.
