WayForward's RPG-shmup hybrid is on its way to stores.

"SIGMA STAR SAGA(TM)" SHIPS TO STORES

Fight for Universe Ensues in First RPG Space Shooter for the Game Boy(R) Advance

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (August 16, 2005) – Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that their original role-playing game "Sigma Star Saga(TM)" has shipped to North American retail outlets.  Created exclusively for the Game Boy(R) Advance, "Sigma Star Saga" is the first game to combine role-playing depth and storytelling with intense space shooting.  "Sigma Star Saga" was honored at E3 2005 by GameSpot as a “Best Game Boy Advance Game” nominee.

“We pride ourselves on making ‘industry firsts’ at Namco, and we are proud to add another as we ship 'Sigma Star Saga,'” said Jeff Lujan, business director with Namco Hometek Inc.  “We are now the first to bring this kind of game to a handheld platform – a true combination of the rewarding aspects of a deep RPG and the thrilling action of a space shooter.”

In "Sigma Star Saga," players are thrust into the midst of a decades-long interplanetary struggle.  The engaging storyline of love, betrayal and revenge spans the entire galaxy and features multiple endings.  Acting as a human double agent deep in enemy territory on a mission to subvert the Krill armada from the inside, players will need both brains and brawn to survive.  As a member of the Allied Earth Federation, players explore their surroundings and outfit their character with powerful gadgets crucial to their victory.

When encountering an enemy, the action takes to the skies in fast-paced side-scrolling space shooting segments.  Using more than 50 unique Gun Data items they discover during exploration missions, players can customize their ship with more than 15,000 combinations of upgrades for use during battle segments.

"Sigma Star Saga" is a single-player game rated E10+ by the ESRB.  For additional information about this first-of-its-kind game, please visit www.SigmaStarSaga.com.

Can't say I'm terribly interested in this game at this point, but Nintendo Power seemed pretty intent on whoring it out so it must have something going for it.

Well, shmup-RPG with customizable weapons. It has the potential for greatness or unprecedented levels of suckiness.

And hey, when was the last time anyone bothered to hype a GBA game?
