Legend of Zelda Mod for Halo PC
« on: August 15, 2005, 08:27:41 PM »
Online Zelda multiplayer?  YES.

We here at PGC are always giddy when we see fan projects that take old games and turn them into something new.  (The now-defunct Chrono Trigger: Resurrection comes to mind.)  Additionally, we are somewhat disappointed that Nintendo's lack of commitment to online for the GameCube turned us to the PS2 or Xbox for our online cravings.

PC mods have been around for a pretty long time now.  For those unfamilar, a mod is basically a program for a PC game that alters the game code to run the game in an entrirely different way that the game was originally intended to.  Some of the more popular PC games to mod are the Half-Life and Unreal games.  (In fact, Counter Strike was originally a mod for the original Half-Life, but it proved so popular that it became its own game unto itself.)

So, what happens when you have a group of guys that loved Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64, like to play Halo online on the PC, and combine all of the above?  Well, online Zelda multiplayer, of course!

The Zelda Online Team is made currently made up of 15 talented modders who are in the process of transforming the PC Custom Edition of Halo into a spittin' image of the N64 Ocarina of Time.  Master Chief is replaced by Link.  The Halo environments are replaced by the Zelda temple settings.  Rifles and plasma grenades are replaced by Master Swords and bombs.

To top it all off, the team is working on making online Zelda multiplayer, complete with Z-targeting!  While it's still a work in progress, early video looks promising (and possibly pants-wetting), with multiple Links running around, slaughtering each other with swords and bombs being spilled everywhere upon dying.

If you want to see what the Zelda Online project is all about, with information, screenshots and video, check out their website.

Woa! I'd even buy Halo for this

You and me both. I am 100% sure they did. Oh well, later is better than not at all, especially since not everyone browses the forums.
Thanks for listening.

yes, old news, but i'm glad they are doing it none the less. it'd be super sweet if they would go ahead and make some kind of small single player adventure, maybe just one or two dungeons..

from what i've read on their site they have a longshot that can pull things twards you and stuff.

Meh, I wish it was for UT2004 or BF2, I'm not buying sHALOw for a mod. Meh, most likely nintendo will shoot them down as the mod reaches completion.

For the record, there is a Super Mario mod for Quake.

you dont need to buy halo for the mod, its standalone custom edition (170meg)
you can use some elses key, aslong as you dont use a key from a serial site (there banned on a few, about 1 in 10 servers) then you can easly play

bungie and gearbox are insanly lazy, there last update was to "fix" and glitch, yet its still in there in game (extraction glitch, freezes the game for no reason), there real reason was to stop people using the no cd hack...well it seems to be the popular belief, so yeah they dont even seem to care about overused serials

Ah yes.  I knew Hyrule Field was missing Warthogs.

Somehow, I always knew.

any idea if it works on the Mac version? That might actually get me to use my Media Play Rewards certificates on it.

Zelda isn't the only Nintendo franchise that's getting plugged into Halo...

Amazing. Already, it looks better than it did on the '64. Not bad at all.

Unfortunatley, I'm placing my bets that the Big N will dispense a "Cease-and-Desist" order in the future. Link bleeding? That's enough for the Nintendo police to kick down their doors and ask them for hefty fines for 'defacing' Link's image...

It doesn't really hurt the brand, but I guess there's no good reason not to spite them if Halo's involved.

defacing Link is like blaspheming against the Blessed Virgin, somebody's going to wind up drawn and quartered
