What happened to the GC NCAA 2006?
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:23:40 AM »
Ever since Sega gave the GC the shaft for sports, all we (pretty much) had left was EA for "realistic" sports games. And now that they have the exclusive rights to the NCAA Football, they decide not to release it on GameCube? Well, of course it gets Madden.. but half the features they advertise for the thing is importing your NCAA players in and continuing their career!

And thing is, as close as March of this year, EA was showing and talking about the game showing up on GC. What happened? Last second cancellation? I am confused but feel I should not be.

I know what you mean. Why would EA give the cube the shaft? I was looking forward to NCAA 06, because you can't find 2005 in my area. My cousin told me how you can create your own school to compete. This psyched me up, because my school isn't even in the NCAA. Hell, we don't even have a football team!

The reason EA decided to stop GC support with the Ncaa titles is NCAA sold something like 30 thousand copies last year, and they just don't consider it very profitable when they sell 2 million on the other systems.  This has been known since April, believe it or not.  I couldn't say anything, though.  I can say there were a lot of internal arguments about it.

I think if those sports organizations (NCAA, NFL, MLB, NHL) that have sold off exclusive rights should require the purchaser to produce a product for every current console with more than 1 million installed users. This not only reflects badly on EA, but also on the NCAA...

But in this season's lineup, it is only NCAA Football and Arena Football that aren't being released on GC. Both of these I was psyched about getting. GRRRR!!!!

I'm more upset about the whole MLB situation, the only baseball game for GC was the MVP Baseball series but now EA can't make MLB games thanks to Take-Two Interactive.

I'm assuming that's why Pennant Chase was created... assuming it ever sees the light of day.
