PAX 2005
« on: June 30, 2005, 06:29:41 AM »
Anyone else going to PAX this year?  Today is the last day to preregister for cheaper entrance and a shot at the OMEGA PRIZE!  I just signed myself up and I can't wait.

Nintendo is presenting this year so I will be able to get my hands on the new Zelda.  Nintendogs comes out the week before so I'll get to walk around with a puppy in my pocket =P

Anyway, 35 bucks for 3 days of fun is a good deal.  I'm making a whole vacation out of it, hitting up seattle for 10 days to see if I really want to move there.  You should all go!

<conspiracytheory>
There is a secret event planned for Saturday at 1pm...

Revolution??!

</conspiractytheory>

Well its confirmed they are going to show off similar stuff to e3.  They have a booth afterall.

If you are referring to my silly secret event theory.  I was half joking.

That's quite impressive.  First, what's an Omeganaut?  Second, how many of them are there?  Third, why has Penny Arcade been going downhill for the past year or so?  Fouth, if you win, can I have your copy of Bad Dudes?

EDIT:  Oh yeah, congratulations and best of luck to you.

An omeganaut is someone who was randomly selected to compete for the prize...  I think I'm one of like 15 people in a huge tournament to win that collection.  The tournament spans multiple games.  All but one of the games is going to be announced in the next few days.  The final game is going to be a surprise... all 'The Wizard' style.

Edit: And I don't think PA is going down hill at all.  I still eagerly await the new comic every monday wednesday and friday.  PAX is going to be a hell of a good time even if I didn't get picked to be in the tournament.  If you live in the Seattle area, you'd be dumb not to go.

I think it's the only one I stand a chance at.  If I make it to Katamari I should do ok there too.

The karaoke revolution part has my stomach churning.

I was really sad Smash Bros. wasn't included.

Damn, I don't want to say it....

I got booted at Mario Kart... the second round... but let me explain...

Tycho even thought I was one of the best players, but because of the way they did it i got robbed.

It was Wario Stadium... the dirt one..i think thats wario...

Anyway, we had 1 practice race and 1 real race...

In the practice race I started out looking at the wrong screen, so I fell way behind...  I then charged all the way back and took first... with comments coming from Tycho like "Blue sparks on the landing!" and stuff like that.. =P

Then, in the actual race, I was doing fine... Top 3 the entire time or so...

Last lap...

Final jump before the finish line...

I get fireballed and fall off...

The whole crew passes me...

I take 8th place...

=(

It was a ton of fun though.  Tycho is an awesome guy and was really cool to talk to.

That's too bad.  I only saw the final two rounds with the guys doing just a terrible, but hilarious, job at Karaoke Revolution and then the Combat round.

Overall I had a good time and will probably go back next year.  It was great to have a chance to play so many demos.  My only hang up is that I get really nervous when people watch me play a game I haven't touched before, so it took me most of Saturday to get the nerve to play the Zelda demo since there was consistently a crowd around it.  <3 the horseback battle.

Did you notice the overwhelming number of DS owners compared to PSP owners?

Yeah, it was crazy.  Tycho even mentioned it in his news post today.  I got a ton of Nintendogs bark mode encounters and a lot of fun pictochatting in.

I hope to go back next year, but it is an expensive trip for me, so right now I kind of doubt it.  I had a ton of fun seeing all the Seattle sites though too, so the trip was definately worth it.  I drove into NOAs parking lot and got a lot of funny looks.  Then I chickened out and left.  =P

Yeah, I took advantage of the Nintendogs bark mode as well.  What was your dog's name?  I wonder if you are one of the people I got a dog from.

My DS name is Pale, and I had two dogs I switched between..  A huskey named Kiba and a Shi Tzu named Seattle.  What about you?  I'll see if you are on my DS.

I was at the SSBM tournament as well, but got eliminated really fast.   It looks like I may have been almost right behind you from the looks of your pictures.  I was at table 21, which was one in the center of the floor.
