"Live 8" Anybody going?
« on: June 22, 2005, 01:16:06 PM »
I live in Philly so I most definitely going to the one here (plus its free Yaaay). Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder, Bon Jovi, Dave Mathews Band, Destiny's Child, Rob Thomas and a few more bands plus about a million people at the Art Museum (You know the steps Rocky ran up) I gotta be here. I already plan to get sick that day so I can call out of work. Live Aid was here all those years ago but I was only about 4yrs old. I still here people talk about how dope it was so there is No Way I'm missing this one.

I don't know what you're talking about =D  I'm not really interested in many of those people, and I don't think trying to manage with that crowd would make it worth it anyway.

But HAY I saw Streetlight Manifesto a couple weeks ago, seeing Reel Big Fish tomorrow, and seeing Cake late July.  My life is almost complete.  Just a few more bands to go!

With Maroon 5 on the bill, free is overpriced.

The original Live Aid had an advantage in that it occured during a time where the music industry was actually producing some decent music.

Don't know where you folks are from or what you listen to but damn if I'm missing Jay-Z and Stevie Wonder. We get a million people every 4th of July in the same park so no big deal. I'm not "cool" so I rather enjoy Maroon 5.  Ian, are you old enough to remember Live Aid or is that just what you've heard about the concert and music in the early 80's.

Live Aid(also in Philly) in the early 80's was not free to go but free on tv. Live 8 in Philly is free but I think you have to pay at the other ones around the world.

For some reason Stevie Wonder doesn't fit AT ALL into that group.

I'd go to see Stevie Wonder only.

Well I was alive when Live Aid occured.  I was too young to know about it at the time but I'm not some ignoramus who only knows music from his 12th birthday and on.  I know 80s music pretty well.

I'll admit Stevie Wonder's got talent and Bon Jovi's got a few fun cheesy songs.  I don't care at all for the rest though.

"I'm not "cool" so I rather enjoy Maroon 5"

Uh, where did you get that from? It's my personal opinion, no one said anything about "coolness"

Oh no it was nothing personal IceCold, its just that there is a certain perception that everything mainstream is bad and real music fans or at least the "cool" ones only listen to either pre-95 music or indie artist. While I believe this to have some merit, something is to be said for a handful of mainstream folk.  I used to only listen to Hip Hop and soul music, then the flood gates open for the genre and all this Lame-Duck-Mud-Fish-Music started being called Hip-Hop so I just turned it all off (Then I started my own studio but thats another post). Since I grew up listening to "Real Hip-Hop" I can tell the difference between let's say Nas and 50cent or Common and Nelly. I have not yet learned the difference in other genres of music, Rock -n-Roll being one of them. Did that make sense at all.

Yeah i'd kinda rather beat myelf with a pillow case full of doorknobs then go to that but have fun.......It's just i really like beating myself with a pillowcase full of doorknobs, and has nothing to do with the music.

I'll just watch it on TV. I actually have stupid hope that since Velvet Revolver is there they could play with Axl Rose, if he ever comes out of his home, and be the last concert by the original Guns N' Roses. I am a GN'R fan. But since it's Axl Rose, no way will it happen.

Now that it's over, did anyone watch it?

AOL.com has some good commercial-FREE videos of everything if you're not worried about downloading an IE plugin from them. It's worth it to see Pink Floyd, that's for sure.

Yeah the other concerts had a lot more to offer than the one mentioned here.
