Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
« on: May 19, 2005, 08:56:30 PM »
I can't believe there isn't a thread on this!

I just read Ty's impressions of it, and i'm very excited about this game, the selling point for me is all the awesome Mario remixes.

I'm concerned about the dance mat that will come with the game though, the one I have that came with some DDR game on PS2 (ugh, more like Dancing Stage, stupid PAL) is ok, but slides around everywhere, and gets annoying when I try to do harder difficulties, and i'm not a really hardcore DDR fan so i'm not going to shell out a billion dollars on a special dance mat. =P

I hope the dance mat that comes with this is better, and does anyone have any tips for keeping a crappy dance mat straight and getting the most out of it? Are Nintendo making this pad or Konami?

"does anyone have any tips for keeping a crappy dance mat straight and getting the most out of it?"

Maybe you could duct tape the thing to a big piece of wood and make yourself makeshift hard pad.

I've never played DDR but I want to.  Since Ty says that this is a real DDR game that isn't dumbed down or anything then I'm probably going to get it to give the series a try.

If you've never played DDR before, then why should it matter to you if it has been dumbed down or not?  How would you be able to tell the difference?

Hahaha, i'll take those tips into consideration.

I have another question, it says you can play as Luigi or Mario or other characters, does it make a difference other than what character is dancing around the screen?

Obviously you nor even interested in the game as multiplayer screens featureing Waluigi have been shown. I highly doubt it would make a difference.

Because he COULD purchase another system and COULD purchase another game and if Nintendo short changed him with their crappy third part support and horrible first party games ONE MORE TIME he'll flip.

I'm interested in the several mini games that are shown in the trailer.  Previous DDR games haven't had near as many and it could make for a fun time when you get frustrated with traditional DDR.

I still can't decide if I want there to be classic DDR songs in it or not.  Obviously, more content is better, but I don't want them to skimp out on mario remixes for pop songs (a la DKonga).

do you think the song list will be full or will be shorter because of disc size.

IGN stated that Nintendo said it wouldn't be as difficult as a normal DDR title, but thats just Nintendo saying that, and you know how they down play things.

If you check out the impressions at PGC it is said that Real Hard is the same as Heavy with 16th notes and everything.  With that I have no worries. I have been waiting for something like this for a looooong time.

Some of the music I hear from the videos sounds like it's dj TAKA's doing.  I was hoping for some konami originals from the other mixes but from the sounds of it looks to be just the new songs.

PGC.  Ty gave the impressions.  He's a DDR fan and knows what he's talking about.  IGN likely doesn't know sh!t about DDR.  They just go by whatever the damn press release says.  Ty says Real Hard is the same as Heavy.  IGN probably just sees the words "Real Hard" and assumes it's easier than Heavy without doing any actual research.

Speaking of DDR, I just read this and it's really funny

If DDR came to the Revolution, it would be "Dance Dance Revolution Revolution" lol

As for how hard the Super Hard is... I definitely played one that I'd call 8-feet (and it got pretty crazy with Mush Mode on). I only saw like 5 Super Hard songs get unlocked at the show, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are more similar or tougher ones.

Also, at the show, the margins for getting perfects were pretty damn big, I dunno if that's final or an option or just the way the show build was, but it's definitely worth pointing out as I was getting <5 greats on Heavy songs on a soft pad...

I want to point out to anyone who this might be their first DDR game.  Do not freak out thinking that they have dumbed down teh difficulty.  Ty is obviously freaking awesome at the game.  I've been playing for over 2 years and I can still just barely do 6 footers.

Just picked up a PS2 of my buddy and it came with DDR, now I can practice up before Mario Mix releases.  I am in the 4 foot range for 8th mix, which seems to be easier than 6th and 7th, so I am wondering how I will do on this version.

All I know is I love Mario music, and there was good variety in the remixes among those on the show floor.  I just hope there are more than 25 or 30 songs.  Come on, Nintendo--how much does it cost to remix a song you already OWN?!  If you can only come up with 30, ditch the Mario-only mentality and dig into your other goods like Kirby and Zelda!

Last time I checked this was Konami's game, and sadly it seems like they're just doing the bare minimum in order to scrape off MC Groovz.  Yeah they could do more than 25 songs, but it seems like their real focus is on DDR Extreme 2.  In all honesty, I'm still trying to figure out why this mix is with Mario while Karaoke Revolution Party seems to be the real thing seeing that it's multi-platform.
