Ok.  Finally Camera updated for me.  Like I thought false alarm.

Rhoq has the real story.  Which is interesting.  That means that Nintendo is considering a Space World.

1)That means Summer Launch is definate if we get a Space World.

2)It means nothing will be shown here today.

3)E3 next year will be interesting, because it will literally be Nintendo's Biggest Do or Die E3 ever.

Maybe the xbox couldnt steal it but it looks like the ps3 will be falling against the rev in competion with the release date.  You know after reading that interview, I was calmed down.  Miyamato has a way of calming rabid fanboys.  It makes sense they have over a year before launch and anything can happen.  The system could be redesigned ps3 could be redesigned.  They must have some really good ideas that they dont want to have stolen.  Even if they showed us the rev today, they arent going to change much minds of the people.  Nintendo fans already are backing them up and nintendo is aiming for a new fanbase of non gamers.  How many non gamers would of picked up a gaming mag and said oooooooh a nintendo system i want. . . . Well chances are if they really are a non gamer then they wouldnt have picked up the mag to begin with.  I think its time for all of us to settle down and calm down.

"Nintendo needs to reveal as many details about the Revolution as possible, without compromising their supposed innovations. If they don't want to show the controller. Fine. At this point, I don't care any more. But, they need to show the system's graphical power off ASAP and let the general gaming public know they are still in the game."

I agree with you completely.  They SHOULD show more info now.  But just because it would be a smart thing to do it doesn't justify that that's what they WILL do.

"E3 next year will be interesting, because it will literally be Nintendo's Biggest Do or Die E3 ever."

If they wait that long it won't be "Do or Die", it will be "Done and Dead".  If they wait that long I'm predicting right here and now that they'll be out of the console making business by 2010.  That's just way too late.  I think it's a given that there will be some sort of Nintendo-related show later this year unless Nintendo has gone totally insane.  The Xbox 360 launch is the drop dead date.  If they don't spill the goods by then they're f*cked.

And this "steal our ideas" crap is really picking my ass.  People only steal really awesome ideas and Nintendo's "top secret" ideas of the last five years have all been really lame and thus not stolen.  They're going to completely kill their own hype when they reveal the secret and it's so minor that no one would EVER steal it.  They're building the controller up so much that the only way they're going to meet expectations is if the controller is so weird that it's useless, in which case they'll disappoint by having a useless controller.  The odds of them having something so different that it has to be kept secret yet is also incredibly functional and works with all games is incredibly slim.  We're either going to be pissed that the controller is so retarded or pissed that they waited forever to show it.

That would be probably only you , if the controller is indeed awesome and revolutionary, I wouldnt mind they take so long to show it.

Second that, hell, I don't care all that much when they show it in fact... I would just like to see some footage from some games to appease me. They can keep their secrets of the rev under wrap, if they do believe they could be stolen then more power to them to do so, but we need pictures of stuff for us to drool over.

the Xbox 360 launch is a non-factor here. The kind of person who is going to buy one of those within 6 months of its launch is probably not a likely candidate for a Nintendo console, no matter how great it is. They're in the market for photorealistic FPSes that play like crap and fighting games with boobies. Nintendo is unlikely to provide either.

Besides which, the percentage of people who will have already bought their next gen console by E3 next year compared to the overall market is going to be way less than 5 percent. Nintendo's target market of casual users and non-gamers are not all lining up to grab an Xbox 360 at or near launch, nor are they likely to shell out the over $400 the PS3 is expected to cost.

Nintendo needs to do what they're doing, which is play their own hand and stop looking across the table.

If the controller is awesome and revolutionary then I also won't care as much is they took so long to show it.  But I mentioned that the odds of that happening are pretty slim.  I'm saying that if they release something that isn't all that different but is still a well designed controller I'll be upset that they took so long to show it.  Like if it's the Cube controller with motion sensors added I'll be angry they waited so long because that didn't need hiding.

I understand that Ian, but its too early to say that chances of a revolutionary controller are slim, it could very well be the next "analog stick".

"Sony stole Nintendo's connectivity idea."

Yeah but not for a while.  Nintendo had ample time to make the concept a system seller in between.

In the interview Miyamoto brings up wireless controllers as something the competition has "stolen".  Yet Sony and MS waited an entire generation before using that idea.  The Wavebird was shown over a year before the Xbox launched.  MS could have stolen the idea at any time but they didn't and that's the important thing.

And did Sony stealing the analog stick hurt Super Mario 64 sales?  Did Sony stealing rumble hurt Star Fox 64 sales?  No they didn't because they couldn't steal the idea in time to get it to the market before Nintendo and they couldn't compete with the games Nintendo used the ideas in.  If Nintendo has a great new idea and has some great games that use this idea they don't have to worry.  There's not enough time for the competition to steal the idea before Nintendo releases it and they shouldn't be able to compete with the amazing games Nintendo has lined up.  Unless Nintendo doesn't have any great ideas for their new concept like they didn't with connectivity until years later.  But if that's the case this new concept isn't going to give them an advantage anyway.  Stealing will only hurt Nintendo if the competition can make something better with the same concept.

Ian:  To say that Nintendo can't survive waiting for next year's E3 is silly.  It won't kill Nintendo.  The fact is, if you deliver a product people want it will be bought, period.  So Nintendo could not show it at next E3 and just launch it, and if people liked what they saw, it will sell.

Now, its not smart for Nintendo to do that, because it will mean slower initial sales.

What would be smart though is to schedule Space World or any large media event 1 or 2 weeks before the launch of the Xbox 360.  That could literally take all the hype away from the Xbox, it would definately be much better than just releasing Zelda on the same day.

Actually, that plan ONLY works if Nintendo keeps quiet this E3...and look they did.

Sony stealing the analog stick hurt SMS' sales.  Sony stealing rubmle hurt SF:A's sales.  If the PS1 controller was completely digital, do you think it would have grown in popularity as much as it did?  Probably not.  Hence, Nintendo would have been much better off this generation.

"The fact is, if you deliver a product people want it will be bought, period. So Nintendo could not show it at next E3 and just launch it, and if people liked what they saw, it will sell."

It doesn't work that way with consoles.  Most people buy only one console.  An Xbox 360 sale or Playstation 3 sale is like a no-sale for the Revolution and it works vice versa as well.  If they wait until people have already bought Xbox 360's then they've lost sales.  Most of those people who will have bought 360's won't buy a Revolution.  That's just how it works.  The Rev has to be REALLY exceptional to get people who have already made their choice for this next gen to switch or to buy a second console.  That sort of exceptional quality is rare so I don't think it's a good idea for Nintendo to rely on that situation.

Mindshare also plays a big part.  Nintendo has to convince people that they want to buy the Rev.  Most gamers are ignorant.  Once they've made their decision as to which console to support they don't pay any attention to the other consoles.  The Cube has had some amazing games released in the last few years but none of them have sparked sales.  That's because the PS2 and Xbox crowd doesn't even know these games exist.  Nintendo didn't hook them in early on so after that terrible post-launch drought it didn't matter what they released because no one was paying attention.

Once you've made your decision on which console to buy you don't have to do any research anymore.  So Rev information isn't available when you're doing your research you're not going to notice when the info is made available.

Plus there's also the persception that if you aren't showing anything it means you don't have anything to show.  I think Nintendo isn't prepared for the next generation yet and the reason I think that is because they had the chance to show something and get the hype train going and they didn't.  Logically it makes no sense to have a disappointing conference when you don't have to.  I might be wrong but it's a fair assumption to make.  And it's bad for people to have that sort of opinion.  If Nintendo doesn't know to show some screens when the competition does it suggests that they don't know what they're doing and people don't like buying products from companies that don't know what they're doing.

If Nintendo showed screens would any of the "Nintendo is doomed" sh!t that's starting to pop up even exist?  No it wouldn't (unless the screens were really crappy but that's a difference arguement).  This negative reaction is entirely due to them not showing enough information.  Negative reactions are bad.  They hurt sales.

BS.  Name one Playstation game that used the analog stick to the same level that Nintendo's N64 games did.  There are none.  Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil, Tekken & Metal Gear Solid were all d-pad focused games.  Sony adding analog sticks didn't accomplish anything.  It was Nintendo going with cartridges that entirely screwed them up.

True.  But the Nintendo confrence was on Tuesday (5/17).  Plus, I assume that Nintendogs uses the DS' clock, not its own.  In which case, we can assume that was Tina's DS, which would likely be set to an American time.
