What is a revolution?

What is a revolution?

2.  The overthrow of one government and its replacement with another.
3  A sudden or momentous change in a situation
4.  a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving; "the industrial revolution was also a cultural revolution"

In my political science class we have been talking alot about what a revolution is. My teacher is of persian descent and left his country during the islamic revolution in Iran. He is also cool as fuck. Anyways, he showed us a film on how drastic the revolution in Iran was. The King of Iran or Shah was pretty much a big phoney, and he pretty much pissed everyone off. Iran was actually a pretty liberal place at the time. However, a revolution began. People became fed up with the totaltarian monarchy. Orignally the Shah had been a constitutional monarch but he later abolished the constitutionality. This pissed everyone off and long story short alot of crap happened, People ran threough the streets fighting soldiers..complete anarchy.
Everything changed. Evewntually the religious fundementalists managed to gain the most control and took over the contry. So the country went from being fairly liberal in the middle east to being extremist conservative. A comeplese back wards change.

In the Video game industry we can compare the current de facto rulers and market leaders to governmenty structures. Basically, everyone right now is Sony's bitch. Microsoft is trying to be sony and is sort of like a competing nation. However Nintendo says they have something that they've invented so revolutionary that they will upturn the industry and create a paradigm shift.

So right now the industry looks at Nintendo as if its some sort of dying company. On the other hand Nintendo remains very profitable. In the business of making money in the game business they are doing extremely well. On the other hand they are selling less copies of games. But they make 30 times the profit per game then they made with the n64. What nintendo really needs to do is have their system do somehting special so everyone is interested and at the same time match the otehr systems.

How i beleive they plan to do it

Fist nintendo is playing time tables this round. They were heavilly strategizing the last round, but really they lost their hardware edge. If you remember reading old interviews with Peter Main he would always talk about their wait and see strategy, and how they were waiting to see the specs of ps2 before even announcing their own specs. They were really hoping for the right time and they wanted the hardware edge they wanted. Unfortunaately they had already started devloping gamecube and were pretty devloped in their system when microsoft announced thye would have a system and really this killed Nintendo's hardware edge. Xbox is really not that much more powerful than gamecube..but its very hard for gamers to understand how things work like the hardcore fans would.

This generation will be different. Nintendo plans to release a system more powerful than xbox 360, and at least as powerful, slightly less powerful, or more powerful than ps3(it all depends on cost and time frame).
They want to have a hardware edge and at the same time duke it out with Sony and even prove that they can get ahead of Sony.

At the same time MS thinks that they can get a ton of userbase by releasing early much like ps2 did. However this doesnt account the fact that gamers will know rev and ps3 will be more powerful and ignore it. That is what happened with Dreamcast. Alot of us werent swayed enough wityh Dreamcasts superior graphics to the time current gen of systems. So im figuring Xbox 360 will be ignored by only those who really really want to play halo 3.  At the same time there will be those who wait. Or will either A. Wont be able to afford the new system B will be pissed off because they jsut bought an xbox(ity happens causal gamers are unaware of new system launches)

One thing however, Nintendo knows that graphics this gen don'tr matter if any of you have seen what the 360 can do, youm ight be plenty satisfied as it is already realistic graphical eye candy. So Nintendo plans on doing something different which will offer it some sort of advantage over the competition. The question is what is this thing that ity will offer over the competition?

One thing is for sure is that even if they dont haver a  huge advantage they can still grab some market share by competing during the same time frame as Sony and perhaps capturing back some of the market before Sony claims ahold of it. If Nintendo manages to get enough inch of market share devlopers will flock back to Nintendo, and sony will lose any sort of advantage that they used to have. Once they have those devlopers back there is really no stopping them.

I believe Microsoft knows the position their in coming out first. They only survived this long because of HALO. They know how lucky they are to come this far thanks to HALO. So they want to assure their stay by not revolutionizing or innovating but by coming out first and presenting pretty pretty games based on existing ideas. To increase their userbase sky high and dominate a new gaming generation. Thats all!!! The same crap like before but much more prettier. I predict they will spend millions on advertising to hype up the next box like it's the cure for cancer. So take shelter because we are going to be Bombarded by XBOX 360 COMMERCIALS. However people like to see technology go forward with new fresh ideas, so as long as it catches on and were ready for it. (Example) Hey whats that? whoa! this is so cool I've never played anything like this before. this is so cool. I've got to show others. I've gotta get me one of these. The response I would like Nintendo to get for creating something new. You've got to love Nintendo for always trying to create new ideas while Sony and Microsoft just dont.

Those too were absolutly amazed by that demonstration I gave them. Proof that new things is what people want. I just wish Nintendo would bust out their killer app faster. Patients I'm running out of patients!!! Patients hell we want it now (my inner dark side).

Nintendo definately absolutely needs the killer app at launch.  Its great to have a list of great games like SSB, but they really need a game at launch that says revolutionary ass kicking.
