Prince of Persia
« on: May 08, 2005, 08:41:36 AM »
Is it just me, or is PoP:SoT buggy as hell?

I'm currently trying to beat it for the second time. The first attempt ended in the Hall of Learning. After the fight, I walked into the sand cloud and saved the game. Then, every time I loaded that save point, Farah would fall into a pit with spikes half a second later, before I could do anything. "No, no, she didn't die.." GAME OVER. So I'm left with an unusable save point.

Oh well, no software is perfect, and I like the game, so I wouldn't really mind starting over. On my second time through, I make it past the hall of learning fine, and make it to the observatory. Again I save the game after the first fight, and I'm now at a point where I have to get on the platform, and Farah has to pull the lever to make it go up. So I do, the prince yells "NOW", and.. nothing happens. The cut scene starts (as evidenced by the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen), but the platform stays right where it is. So I got an unusable save point AGAIN.

Then there are a few other glitches as well, like collision detection deciding to stop working during a fight - my sword would just go through the sand creatures, and camera being unsure where it should go, and shaking like crazy as a result..

I really like a lot about the game, the graphics, the puzzles, the acrobatic tricks, the story, etc, but this kind of stuff really pisses me off. I take good care of my games and my system, the disc has no scratches, and my Cube has no trouble reading other discs. I guess I just saved at the wrong time (twice in 3 days..). I'll probably give it another try eventually, this time keeping 2 save points, and alternating between them when I save.

Anybody else had similar problems with this game? What about the sequel?

-Anton

I never had any glitches in PoP on my PS2 never tried the cube version, but the sequel has a plethora of bugs. Gamespot reported that the gamecube version of Warrior Within is the least glitchiest version.

My version's fine.

As for Warrior Within, get the GC or PC version. The PS2 version has graphics bugs and the Xbox version has sound problems.

Correction: As for Warrior Within, stay away.

I second that, I hate it how Ubi is shortening dev time of popular franchises to get them out in the market fast *cough splinter cell cough cough*

More like Ubi Soft doesn't know how to make GameCube games, more like Ubi Soft doesn't even know how to PORT PS2 games.

Prof. I think Ubi need to spend more time on sqashing bugs and yes making gamecube and DS games better in quality.

They can start by actually developing GameCube games with the GameCube IN-MIND.  What?? Ubi needs GameCube and PS2 versions of games that were given CARE and EFFORT on the Xb/PC?  Why, just get Ubisoft "PORTS-R-US" Shanghai Team on the case! (mistake #1)

Instead of basing GCN development (with all the necessary down-scaling, re-tooling, etc) off of Xb/PC designs, Ubi's content with trying to "improve" on downgraded PS2 designs. (mistake #2)

I think the last game by Ubi to be developed with "even", considerable care across all platforms was Beyond Good & Evil.  When/if they'll go back to that quality of development, i don't know.

I'm not a huge UbiSoft fan or anything, but considering it's only been a year and a half since Beyond Good & Evil was released, it is totally possible that they're still putting considerable care into all platforms on certain games, because to do so means spending more than 18 months on development.

But yeah, it seems like the company has let Prince of Persia and a few other titles go down the toilet in terms of quality assurance.
That's my opinion, not yours.
