Odama cancelled for the Cube and switched to the DS
« on: April 18, 2005, 09:13:15 PM »
Horse nostrils!

According to the Magic Box Odama has been canned for the Cube in favour of the DS.  Dang.  That means they're likely going to have to compromise the game.  Sure the DS has a touchscreen but it's inferior hardware.  Plus the neato bongos compatibility is gone.

It's not a very good sign that Nintendo is already starting to switch Cube games to another format.  Sure they did that with the N64 but we didn't know about that for ED and Dinosaur Planet until 2001.  Here there's still likely over a year until the Rev launches.  The Cube has few games left in the pipeline anyway.  Why create another month of no releases and make it just that little bit harder for the Revolution to pull itself out of the hole Nintendo has dug itself in the console market?

Sure you could argue they need more DS titles but that problem in itself is completely inexcusable.  I guess the DS should be a higher priority but Nintendo shouldn't be in a situation where Cube support has virtually completely dried up and the DS has a slim lineup.  Odama is like a bandage and Nintendo has to decide which self-inflicted wound to patch it with.

Well damn. The DS is already getting it's own pinball game. A Metroid one, which is clearly going to be the best game ever because Nintendo would never make a mediocre pinball game using one if it's biggest franchises. On top of that, it has all those awesome GBA titles like Mario Pinball available. The DS needed more games a month or two ago. Right now it's upcomming games are plentiful. The Cube, however, could do with a few more games toward the end of its life. Sure it has Fire Emblem, Kirby and Zelda, but Odama is listed for E3 so I guess it's a while away. Why the hell did they do this?

EDIT: Opps, it just occured to me that the RTS elements would work much better on the DS.

WHAT? Damn! This sucks

I want more bongo games... I was looking forward to this!

I really hope this news is the result of a translation error or something... I don't want to believe it

To be honest, graphically the game looked like shareware.  Nintendo may be simply trying to avoid any anti-hype reactions to the graphics by putting them on DS where they won't even need to be downgraded.  As for bongo compatibility, I must have missed that somewhere.  I played it with a normal controller, and I was fairly sure there was more to it than bongos could accomodate, but maybe not.

Bongos were just something a second player could use to 'keep up the morale' of your troops. A minimal addition, but nifty anyway.

You could still do that with the GameCube bongos (or other things) and the DS's mic. If they let you.

I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

Wait a second, wasn't this also an April Fool's joke this year?  If this is true it's ridiculously ironic...

I might've actually bought this for DS.
But who knows, if I get good enough feedback I might get it for Gamecbe.

It should be moved to DS.
I was at the arcade the other day, Pinball was so boring that it wasn't even worth putting in an extra $1 play a second round. At least on DS it won't be a half arsed filler title.
