Metriod Rev?
« on: April 05, 2005, 02:06:57 PM »

I know it's fake....it was published on April 1st and no other sites have published this information. However, the picks are AMAZING! Could the Rev. really produce real-time graphics such as these?

Playing Prime, I always felt it was going for a darker atmosphere to the Metriod series. I thought it did it very well, but with these graphics, we can really feel how lonely Samus is, and how incredibly intimidating the enemies she faces really are.

With 1-handed controls, this game could be amazingly addictive.

WOW, that looks sick lol.  If the REV is capable of those type of visuals I'm sold.  Let me not get too excited though since this is nothing but a joke lol.

I heard that those pics were from the original Metroid commercial for Prime.  But I can't verify that so take it as you will.....

Yeah, those are images from the (presumably) live-action part of one of the recent Metroid commercials. I remember them.

i agree that it looks pretty sick.

i agree that it'd be wild if rev could do that.

i agree i'd buy that game for the graphics alone.

i agree with ruby and noble that they're just caps from the commercial.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear....I know that they are fake.

What I was trying to get at is, could the Rev produce something similar to those pics? Everytime a new system comes out, I am floored by the graphic quality. Looking at the Xbox 2 screen caps, it doesn't look like a big jump is headed our way. However, since the Rev has a year to update technology and because the Metriod series is focused on 1 charachter and her surroundings, unlike the Xbox 2 screens where the game is a MMOFPS, could the graphics jump up to that quality?

I'm doubting it for now, because graphics like those are border-line shrek 2, but who knows....

I loved that commercial, though.

Beautiful writing, and a great voice to it.  Best commercial ever, pretty much.

So do you imply that the REV won't be able to pull it off?

well heres the kicker....have you guys seen half life 2? Heres the other foot....while half life 2 pushed most everyones system pretty hard....the video cards that will be out by the time rev comes out could run half life 2 as if it were a simple task. Plus nevermind youll be using a tripped out power pc processor....

Lets look at the graphical facts. Doom 3 looks roughly the same on xbox as it does on the pc. The xbox is vastly underpowered compared to your pc. However it has one thing the pc doesnt have..and thats a standard specification and optimization. Because every xbox system is the same then its easier to focus and program greater graphics on a video game system. There is no dealing with the random possibility of every rig. Its the same and you can get down and make the processor do exactly what you want.

Now lets compare gamecube vs rev vs xbox. A nifty little thing managed to make its way into xbox and not gamecube. These are shaders. While it is possible to do every kind of shader by messing around with gamecubes texture pipeline its jsut really easy to program shaders...and thats maybe why some xbox games have that reallyclean graphical look gamecube lacks sometimes. However...Revolution won't be missing out on anyuthing.

So you can expect revolution to be a graphics monster. Expect high polygon models, nice lighting, reflection, etc.

Which console gets the best graphics depends on each company's ability to guess what the next important graphical doodad is going to be.

What's scary to me is that I truly belive the Rev. WILL be able to pull those type graphics off. This is only based on how damn good RE4 looks pushing the Cube to its limits. Although if it doesnt the no big deal, long as the games are fun.

The Rev may be able to pull something like that off, but don't expect it at launch; remember how long RE4 took.

I expect the Rev and PS3 to have at least rough graphical parity, though I would lvoe it if the Rev had the edge. It would be nice if Nintendo would stop taking such an apologetic stance on its graphics and attack the hype the other companies generate.

I'm sure the REV graphics will get better overtime. You can make that assumption by just looking at previous consoles. However, something is different this time around. The REV will use the same interface for programming as the Cube. This should allow for a somewhat huge leap in graphics, that would steadily incline upwards slowly come launch 2006. It would be like skipping the first Rouge Squadron, and jumping to the third (graphically speaking).

I'm not expecting these quality graphics from the start (if the REV can produce it of course). But, it really shouldn't take 4 years to unleash the power of Nintendo's console this time around.

The Perm: You mentioned Half-life 2 being run as if a simple program. How much of the REV's resources do you think it would take to run it? I know we don't know the exact specs, but would you geuss 40-50%? If so, then we could see a huge graphical jump.

Even if the graphics were to improve to the level that that commercial is at, I don't think it would mean much to me.  It would be awesome, but I'm way more interested in what Nintendo can do with the gameplay.
That's my opinion, not yours.

.....Maybe not...

CouchMonkey, I agree with you to an extent. WE like gameplay, but other's don't wait to see what's cool about it then get it, like we do. If it has stellar graphics, it will attract attention.......

Couple those graphics (or less for that matter) with Gyration controllers and it's OVER! I already know what won Game Of the Year 2006 .

The graphics are nice, but if they were on the Rev, the lighting would have to be improved quite a bit - it was too dark.

It was live action. I remember I loved that commercial except for one thing: the actor (or actress? ) who was playing Samus moved very clunky, specially when doing the flips in the air... of course, then I realized that being live action the flip with such  costume was already difficult enough. I personally loved the song in the commercial and I wish I could find it.

Considering Doom 3 and the UE3.0 shots, I have no doubts the Rev will do graphics like that in realtime.
