Gaming-Age Forums get flushed down the crapper
« on: April 03, 2005, 10:00:54 PM »
Apparently the Gaming-Age forums got hacked yesterday.

Someone got into an "administrator" account, started granting/revoking moderator privelages, started levelling/lifting bans on people, and generally messed with as much as possible.

The admins think they know who did it (a forum regular), and based on the pattern of destruction, they think that he/she was pro-Nintendo, and had emotional conflicts with a number of anti-Nintendo people on the forum.

The admins eventually got things under control again, but in an act of defiance/vengeance they've decided to adopt a new policy of blatantly trolling against Nintendo, and banning anyone who remains pro-Nintendo, or has a problem with their attitude.

Personally, I've never posted in the Gaming-Age Forums. I signed up once a long time ago, but then I got banned for no apparent reason, before I even made one post. I kind of liked to lurk there anyways, since it seemed like a lot of quality posters and unemployed industry insiders were inexplicably drawn to that forum.

By the looks of things, it'll probably be dead in a couple of days.

I was wondering what happened to those forums.  I justr recently just started to try and read them but one of my computer accounts has been banned before I even visited the site?????

Also, Australia, you are screwed. Beautiful country, wonderful cities, but horrible people who log onto the Internet. Because this trouble maker is with your country, all new registrations with proxies, domains, and even obscure free-email accounts from your prison country will not be approved until further notice. And Paul Hogan sucks.

Negative comments and complaints to our recent change in policies WILL NOT BE HEARD. In fact, they will be mocked.
That seems kinda harsh but I understand the pain associated with the trouble that has been caused.

Ahahahahaha the internet is a serious business.
Insult Australia eh? Oh no, my fragile ego is hurt by that swipe at Paul Hogan. Guess I'll just cut my internet connection now and go outside and play.

I've heard that the attack was because the moderators are idiots there, and the announcement confirms it. Yeah, slander the entire country because of the actions of one person. Not that I go there at all, or even plan to go there in the future.

I don't know, some truly horrible person is my guess.  I'm glad that their taking the saftey precaution of banning people even after they found the culprit, and insulting Australia was a great tactical move on their part.  GA is just awesome.

Totally unrealted but a child was raped in Nicaragua sometime in the past. I'ld say a good way to prevent this from happening in the future is to kill everyone in Nicaragua.

Hahahaha, this is too funny. Crap loads of Nintendo fans are banned for no reason, on the basis that they talked about Nintendogs or another Nintendo game in a positive way, and nobody says a word. Nobody DARES too, because the "mods" all act like 5 year old trolls, and if you say anything bad about the PSP, or one of the mods favourite TV shows, you get banned. Now the reverse happens and the mods are actually put in a powerless position when this hacker strikes, and look how they're acting, it's childish, and hilariously ironic.

The only thing that forum is (or was) good for is gaming news, because that's where everyone reported things first. I hope that these people wake up (which a lot are doing now) and all the respectable posters leave when they realise what's going on.

Paul Hogan? The amazing team of extreme Sony fanboy Gaming Age admins seem to be just a bit out of touch with the everything.

I never liked Gaming-Age anyway.  Took three months to return my request to join the forums.  And just to make sure I couldn't read the forums, they closed them if I signed in (WTF?)  So then I don't care until three months later, when I get an email saying I've been "Accepted" or "Approved" or some condescending nonsense.  Screw them.  I even hear they sell your email to spammers.  So I definitely don't need THAT drama.

Edit:  And they probably would ban me at the outset for my Nintendo avatar.  So they can eat feces for all I care.

I dunno, we'd maybe.. find the guy's IP.  And then ban him.  And just him.  Not his city, or his country, or his planet.  And if he liked Nintendo, or Sony, or Microsoft, or Apples, or Pizza, that would play absolutely no part in our moderating.

Any why not?  Everyone seems to enjoy slandering the United States for the action of one man.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
