Hey guys,
I was browsing the web looking at NGC news and found this at www.ningc.com. They posted that Konami has decided to port the game over to GameCube, but there isn't any news on new levels or enhanced graphics. The release date is mid-2003. Sounds great to me, I have always loved the Contra series. I have also experienced the title on PS2, and the game was great with a friend by your side. I do hope for new levels, but I bet that is doubtful with the port. But, who knows? What do you all think?

P.S. This is my first post, just wanted to say "hey" to everyone.

I read about this a bit ago! A friend sent me the link. I really hope this happens--I've played it out the wazoo on the PS2, and it's an absolute blast (no pun intended). Rejoice!

Sweet. But Konami should be ass raped for going to ps2 first. I hate companies that abandon the consoles that started them because they think they'll get more money. By the way, my ps2 wont play this, in fact the stupid piece of crap broke, so did bnoth my friend's. Sad.

Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought this game got bad reviews and that it was not that good. I loved the old Contra on NES because so few games focus on co-op play. But if this one sucks, I couldn't care less that they ported it over to us.

Most reviews from IGN to Gamespot, etc. were really, really quite good, as I recall. Rest assured--it's as good a Contra game as we could wish for in these anti-2-D days. I love it.

Don't think for a second that Konami is starting already to support the Gamecube, this is merely because Contra didn't sell well on the PS2. How come they never gave us Silent Hill or MGS?

Always got something to say, geeze Nintendo fans are never happy. Accept the fact that Konami is willing to give the Gamecube a chance...don't purchase this port? Then forget future titles...I wouldn't mind a Silent Hill port or even MGS...oh it's not exclusive...get real.

The GBA Contra got raped by the critics. They hated it. I think the PS2 one is pretty well liked.

the PS2 contra got fair reviews. most people pointed out its difficult on the level of "oops, i smashed all my controllers." of course, thats the way contra should be

The Game is good, but if Konami wants to sell games in the Cube they need to bring just 3 titles: Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Winning Eleven. because Contra is crap against those 3 games

Who says I'm complaining. I'm just pointing out the facts, some people may actually start thinking Konami is gonna support the GC with strong titles, which is highly unlikely. Besides I don't care much about Contra anyway.

Uh, where did this information come from? I just checked every major gaming news site, press releases, and even Konami's official websites, and this hasn't come up anywhere. This site didn't even link to the source of the information (something that we always do, ahem) they got this from. Seems like B.S. to me.

Regardless, Contra is damn hard old-school fun. It got average scores because of the difficulty. But you'd still want to play it. (On the PS2 of course, because it's not coming to the GC anytime soon.)

Hmm...willys85...Contra is "crap" compared to Silent Hill and Winning Eleven? You must have a really low opinion of Contra, or you think that Silent Hill and Winning Eleven are some of the greatest games ever, in which case you're probably in a very small minority...haha. No, seriously, I can't really say having never played WE and only having played SH on the PSX (seemed good, but not THAT great). But I can say that Contra is loads of fun, and I know a lot of people who say that Metal Gear's storyline half ruins the thing. And where's the fun in that? haha...

OK BUDDIE!! if u had a job, your first job lets say, and it payed u $10 an hour.... but then u saw another job that gave u $100 an hour for doing the exactly the same task, would u stay with your original job because it was your original job?? HELL NO!!!

and if your going to think that way, then why isnt almost EVERY company developing for nintendo b/c many of them made games on that system before!

The only "bad" thing I heard about Contra was that it was "too hard."

I personally enjoyed this about the Playstation 2 version. I'm tired of all these easy ass games!

I wouldn't trust ningc.com at all. They're one of the main sites responsible for making "teh megaton" go for 6 months. If you're not peeved about that, then I don't know what else can convince you.

Samwise, there certainly was a Contra game on the Genesis--it's one of the best, easily. Just behind Super C, if you ask me. I still play that game (Contra Hard Corps) every so often! In fact, if you ask me, Hard Corps (or as my old roommate thought it was pronounced: Hard Corpse...haha...that's just wrong) was the main inspiration behind Shattered Soldier--even some of the bosses are blatant nods to Hard Corps (see the train bosses in both). And the whole aesthetic of the game is right out of Hard "Corpse," what with the dark and dingy scorched future style.

And yes, Shattered Soldier is freaking hard, but it is in fact not substantially harder than some other Contras! Some friends and I played it for about 5 hours (co-op makes it MUCH easier) and we found that it's hard, but it's entirely do-able with lots of practice and pattern memorization. Better yet: the game is SO FUN you WANT to keep playing. Even more than that, it's old-school in the way that it really sparks your gaming pride--you find yourself saying, "You'll never take me alive, Contra!!!!!"

So, don't be a wussy; get this game. ;-)

(Likewise with Ikaruga. Anyone who says it's not good because it's "too hard" is a friggin' pansy. How's that for a ridiculous macho American statement? hahaha....)

Nintendo fans do have the right to complain. Despite what you may think, Konami is not being "charitable" by porting a game to the GC. Konami owes Nintendo it's lifeblood. They never would have become the power they are now without the NES, the SNES, and (most importantly) the GBA. Nintendo lets them freely develop for the GBA without a contract clause that they need to support the GC. It's the same clause they have with Square (rather, it's subsidiary company). Konami makes a ton off the GBA, the least they could do is give us what we want on the Gamecube.

So, yes, we have a right to complain. Imagine if Nintendo only supported the GBA, and occascionally threw an N64 port at the Gamecube.

I adore insanely difficult games! You want replay value? Don't give us saves, DO give us a limited lives/continues, and make the enemy number in the thousands with insane levels of difficulty!

Um, ShockingAlberto, don't take this the wrong way, but no, Nintendo fans don't have the right to complain. Konami doesn't owe Nintendo or YOU anything. They are a company trying to make good, entertaining games, and if they don't think the GCN is a viable platform, that's their decision!!

I don't see where everyone gets off thinking they have the "right" to claim they deserve this or they deserve that. It's the height of selfishness to carry on in this way, and it needs to stop.

You have the right to yell about what you want. You have to right to scream that you deserve this or that. You have the right, let's face it, to do whatever the crap you want. What does that mean in the end? Nada.

Some of us need to get over ourselves and realize that there are three actual consoles vying for profit. On top of that, there are HUNDREDS of game makers doing the same thing. If Konami has an unfair view of the GameCube's audience, fine. That's their thing. But your so-called "right" to complain is so utterly useless.

And saying that Konami wouldn't be where they are today without SNES and NES is not a valid argument considering Nintendo held the monopoly on gaming for many a year (though not through all of the SNES' run). Competition is actually a good thing, and sometimes--[here comes a grand breakthrough you may not have heard before]--you don't get everything you want! Can you imagine?

Konami owes Nintendo its lifeblood??? I think you've got that at least a LITTLE backward: without great third parties like Konami and Capcom, etc., Nintendo wouldn't have been as successful as they were. Nintendo's first party stuff keeps them afloat, sure, but quite a few years ago, the work of third parties like Konami made Nintendo a super-power towering over everything else. When they left, or lessened support, Nintendo dropped to second or third. Period.

Konami owes Nintendo fans nothing. They owe Sony fans nothing. They owe MS fans nothing. They owe it to themselves to do as they please. Sometimes I wish some people could step outside of themselves and read what they are typing when they type it--they might be shocked by what they see.
