Gamecube to VGA mointor?
« on: March 25, 2005, 03:33:43 PM »
I was just wondering is it possible to hook up the gamecube to a VGA LCD?  I have the old Gamecube with the DVI outlet?

Yes, but you need to buy the adapter.  I was going to buy one, but after doing a search, it seems that the only games that look better on a monitor are progressive scan games, and others actually look worse.

The ONLY games that will work connected directly to a monitor are the Progressive Scan compatible games.  I been doing this for for the last 3 years.

I don't have a box.  I imported a D terminal VGA cable from JPN back then.  It plugs into the Digital out on the cube, and has a VGA connector on the other end to go straight to monitor.

Which NEW gamecube? haven't heard anything about it. Is it the platinum gamecube? And just to clear it up, all gamecubes can go online with the broadband adapter, but there are limited games that are online. The Phantasy Star Online games are all online, but there aren't many others (another game - Homeland - is coming soon that will be online). However, you can play LAN games like Mario Kart online by using this site:

He means the port where the component cable (or JPN D-Terminal cable) connects is completely gone -- recent GameCubes without the port lack progressive scan capability.

Maybe because not enought games utilize that feature.  Does re4 support progressive scan? I might import that D terminal thing if it does.

So you have a new Gamecube? And was it a lot cheaper for Nintendo to stop including the digital outlet?

Resident Evil 4 does support progressive scan.

Mario has a few caps.  I like the Wing Cap.

Nintendo was apparently wearing the Stupid Cap, concerning the cables.  First, they decide to not mass produce/send Component video cables to retailers, forcing people to visit the online store, which the vast majority of owners I guess are not aware of.  Then they decide to not let 3rd party accessory makers produce them.  At a price tag of $30, they're arguably expensive to make, and they figured most players won't have progressive scan-enabled TVs.  Fine.  But then they decide last year to cut costs even more by removing the Digital AV Out entirely, saying there... aren't enough customers who use progressive scan anyway? (something like that...)  Umm kay whose fault is it there weren't enough cables to go around?

Since last holiday season NOA's store has been continuously out-of-stock of component cables, saying "come back in March, or June, we don't know."  I ended up importing my JPN retail version of the cable thru Play-asia.com, who imported from Japan, after it was on back order (yes, out-of-stock in JAPAN) for half-a-month.  I ordered in early Jan, and received it... late February.

~~~~~
RE4 supports p.scan.  Beautiful.  BUT a 30fps game like that still doesn't take advantage of p.scan like some 60fps games do.  F-Zero GX, Metroid Primes, Mario Tennis -- those REALLY shine.
D-Terminal is another version of Component Video used in the Japanese TV market; different plug, with the same video results.  It's not DVI.
I checked Lik-Sang's site and read that the D-terminal cable was designed to only work with JPN monitorr. My question now is, was there something else that you ordered along with it?
This D-terminal cable was *converted* into a VGA cable, then sold.
hey berto....i need to start talking online to you more often again. I bought a capture card and while it is good at capturing video off the tv and off tapes, off dvds, off gamecube..it will not capture video off nes and n64.....so I think im just going to make a tape and send it to you so that you can capture it with your more leet card.
gamecube need to make their lcd screens bigger. a 7in aint gonna do nothing. they need at least a 12 in. i think they need to make a dvd player for the gamecube. even though it will raise the price it will look alot better. i think nintedo has a really good price. i wander what nintedo revolution is gonna run for anyone here.
what difference does it make if trhe size of the ldc screen is sort of small..its meant for when your on the run and you dont want to cary your tv.....and its too late for dvd....gamecube is a set system..no need to change it. You could buy a realkly cheap dvd player at Fry's electronics for $20..just get that.
