Now the developers at DC Studios can rest a little.

DC STUDIOS ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF THE RAYMAN® FOR THE NINTENDO DS

Montreal, Canada. March 1st 2005. DC Studios is extremely happy to announce that it has completed the development of the Nintendo DS version of the latest installment of Ubisoft' s hugely popular Rayman® franchise. Rayman® DS has been developed in the company's Montreal Studio.

Rayman® DS is being released on the DS launch day in Europe in parallel with the hardware itself. The game features both single and wireless multiplayer modes and is a fully featured 3D game that fully uses the capabilities of the Nintendo DS including its wireless, 3D and touch screen capabilities.

Rayman® DS is the latest of many titles developed by DC Studios for UBISOFT having developed Taxi 2, Salt Lake 2002, Bear in the Big Blue House and Bratz in previous years.

'We are very happy to once again be working with one of the most respected publishers in the world on one of their most cherished brands. I am sure that this game will be a great success for all of us and will be welcomed by all purchasers of the DS as the premier platformer for the machine' Said Mark Greenshields, CEO of DC Studios.

Its too bad its just a handheld version of Rayman 2.

Okay thats not a bad thing at all, but havent we seen it enough times? Its graced the N64, PSX, Dreamcast, PC and maybe some other versions exist, apart from the unrelated Rayman 2 game on Game Boy Color

If its multiplayer uses the real Rayman 2 engine, and its not something like that Globox minigame in the Dreamcast version, I may consider purchasing it.

Although, I've never heard of DC Studios, and these other titles they claimed to have worked on kind of make me feel this port is going to miss a lot of stuff...

Edit: Good god, these guys developed Cartoon Network Speedway? Now I fear for Rayman DS.

Hang about - I know there was Rayman Revolution for the PS2 (which was a fancy name for Rayman 2 again), but Rayman 2 on Game Boy Color?  I don't remember that.  There was Rayman - I remember buying that when I was in America in 2000.  It had the Ubi Key feature that Ubi Soft started including in all of their Game Boy Color games.  Rayman 1 also came out for Game Boy Advance, which was followed by an excellent version of Rayman 3 for Game Boy Advance.  Man, that was a really great game.

I wrote Rayman too much in this post.

I'm not too sure if its directly based on Rayman 2, the GBC version that is, but I've got a strong feeling.

Why dont they just bring Razorbeard back to the consoles? They tried it with Rayman 3 GBA by mincing him with the Hoodlums and it just didnt work...

Oh yeah, dont forget the Rayman GBA game that comes out alongside Rayman DS, which is based on the Spyro GBA engine (Or so I heard)

No no, it is'nt using the Spyro engine, that's a different company.  it's just using that same fake 3D style seen in Spyro and other GBA platformers.

As posted in another thread...

If you liked Rayman 2 on the N64 or DC and are looking for a handheld version, I've got some troubling news. According to IGN, DC Studios (I believe) the studios behind the Rayman 2 port to the DS have been having significant trouble bringing the game over to the DS, with the main issue being framerate. I don't know too much about DC other than their history on the GB platform. IMO, I think it just may be first year syndrome, though that wouldn't explain either Nanostray or NFSU2DS which both look and run far better on the DS than the current build of Rayman does. What do you think, bad port team, the DS, or both?
