Hardware to port games to DS
« on: February 24, 2005, 02:06:53 PM »
Nintendo really ought to release hardware to port games from other systems to the DS. We all know that the system can handle N64 games, and many of us would like to see ports in the future. It is unfathomabl to think, however, that Nintendo will port every game that we want to see on the DS. Personally, I want many N64 games on the DS, i would rather have ports than new games. Anyway, Nintendo should release some sort of hardware and blank SD cards so that we can port NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, N64, adn Game Boy games onto SD cards that we can play in the DS. I think this would be an amazing money making opppurtunity for Nintendo, and would offer all gamers the ability to play any and all of their favorites on the DS, since titles are scarce as of now. They could charge any price for this hardware I would pay nearly anything for it.
If anybody wants to give me any virtual boy games, that would be, Indubitably, Neat-o.

It's a nice idea, but the ultimate money making opprotunity for Nintendo is to keep porting the games themselves and selling them individually or via compilations. Just look at how well the Classic NES Series of games on the GBA or Mario 64DS, Ridge Racer, etc. are selling. As cool as it would be, I doubt we will see an "N64 Player" anytime soon... there's still tons of money to be made.

See that's just the thing. Most of the titles nintendo picks to port aren't ones that I want. I want Goldeneye 64 and Starfox 64, I want Uniracers, I Want Perfect Dark. I don't want NES titles, except maybe Battletoads or .... see what I mean? I want to pick the titles I play.

I hear ya... but if Nintendo gives us those kind of options, then chances are we wouldn't pay for the ports they pick. Also, I'm not too sure if the DS can emulate N64 games straight up like that. Being a powerful enough system to play ports is one thing, emulation is a whole other ballgame...

Plus, when/if Nintendo does port N64 games, we'll probably get graphical updates and extra levels/features like with Mario 64 DS. Man, an updated Starfox 64 would kick untold amounts of ass...

yeah, i gues the idea is unpractical considering the about of emulation that would have to occur. It would also be nearly impossible to create one piece of harware that would have an SD card port, N64 Cart port , GBA cart port, NES cart port, SNES cart port, VB cart port, the thing would look like yoshi's boxx! It would be so cool, and also we could play our saved games!

lol, you obviously don't know much about game design do you.
You can't just creat hardware to magically port games to DS... Unless said hardware had a hard drive that had every single NES, SNES, etc. game already ported and in read for transfer
And the DS can hardly emulate without dying.

Nintendo asked people whether they'd buy an N64 player, the overwhelming response was "no".

they need new games.  what killed the GBA software sales was that everything good was a port except three Castlevanias and a Metroid and those were still franchises.

Oog bored!  Oog smash, need new games now!

You forgot Mario & Luigi, Ninja Five-O, Kurukuru Kururin, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the second Metroid game (no, Zero Mission can NOT be counted as a port of the first game, it plays completely different), Advance Wars and Golden Sun. I'm sure I forgot some as well.
