Hot Deals for Canada...
« on: February 14, 2003, 09:44:41 PM »
If there's already a thread (or another site) that someone can point me to that tracks Canadian prices, we can shut this one down. Otherwise, it would be great to start a discussion on sales that all us Canucks find up here. All the yanks are lucky as there's a huge community to check latest prices (ie Anandtech Hot deals forum, this forum, etc.), but us Canadians are left ignorant and uninformed, kinda like our military

So, here's what I've seen that caught my eye lately (all prices CDN).

London Drugs (clearing out all GCN stock):
- authentic Nintendo controllers, $25, down from $30
- Madden 2002, SSX Tricky @ $25, down from $75

Toys R Us:
- Madden 2002, THPS 3, plus other titles @$29

One more I failed to mention.

Toys R Us:

Exclusive Bundle: one GCN console, free game (MPrime,  MParty, RE0, or SFA), a 2nd official controller, and a memory card 251, all for $279.

That saves you a bit of money were you to price it all separately.

Whoa!  I didn't even know that London Drugs carried any Nintendo stock.  I guess I will have to check that out tomorrow.  Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately, I have nothing to add to the list though....

Ummm... where is this Wal-Mart located? A Canadian Walmart??? That would be amazing considering we can't even find it on the shelves in Vancouver.

I picked up Tiger Woods 2003 for $39.99 at my local EB. Almost all EA's games are fairly reasonable now.....sweet.
Inline Release

Each Xbox controller cord has an inline release.  This is a safety feature
designed to reduce the chance of the Xbox console falling when the cord is pulled. If the Xbox console falls and hits someone, especially a small child,
it could cause serious injury"

If you're looking for a Walmart in the Vancouver area, I know there's at least one at Lougheed Mall in Burnaby.  There might be more too, check the phone book.

I've been to two EBs in Toronto and they both dont have skies of arcadia.. is wal-mart having a sale or is it the set price for the game? 39.99 is obviously a helluva lot better than 79.99

My Toys R' Us told me that they are begging for copies of Skies of Arcadia now, and they are supposed to get them sometime before the end of the month.  That satisfies me anyways.  At least I am now assured of a chance to buy a copy.

I'm going to try to get to the Walmart in Coquitlam this week to scoop that up.

Went by Superstore tonight for groceries:

NHL 2003 $39
Eternal Darkness $49
Player's Choice games (in original packaging) - Luigi's Mansion, Pikimin, and SSB:M $49

Personally, I think that the Player's Choice price is way too high. They need to compete with the PS2 'Greatest Hits' price point which is around $25 Cdn. I usually don't buy many +$50 games to begin with, save the GOTY titles like Zelda and MP.

For those who live in Toronto, one can get:
Baldurs Gate $ 29.99
Evolution Worlds $ 39.99
Outlaw Golf $ 29.99
Spyro $ 34.99
Defender $ 24.99

These are not found in EB. The first 3 are no longer available at this store.
I picked up Spyro last Friday, almost bought a used one the day before.

I have.  I got it at Zellers.  The Future Shop and Toys R Us said that they hadn't gotten the discs in yet, but Zellers was dishing them out left and right.  They are in Canada, just not everywhere yet.

Regarding the Zelda bonus disc... my local EB (Vancouver Pacific Center) whom I pre-ordered from is claiming that the availability date of Feb 16th is valid only for the States. They are expecting their disks by tomorrow.

I'm getting tired of their lack of information and slow service.

"I'm getting tired of their lack of information and slow service."

It's probably better to blame Nintendo of Canada.  Judging by various conversations I've had with store clerks about Nintendo release dates Nintendo of Canada pretty much keeps retailers in the dark about new releases.

You're right on, Ian Sane. I definitely think N of Canada is lacking at this point. For example, their press release page had no information concerning the Feb 9th free game bundles leading up to the day of the promotion. Then, a few days after the 9th had passed, I noticed them posting a press release *backdated* to Feb 7th. I guess they don't care as much about keeping their fans up-to-date as N of America does.

Anyway, got a call from the downtown Vancouver EB last night that the Zelda bonus disk is in. I went to pick it up today at lunch. In line ahead of me was a guy that had put his name down mid-January, but hadn't put any money down. The cashier explained that the promo had changed since he put his name on the list and since he hadn't put any money down, he'd have to wait for another shipment. Don't you think someone from EB should have contacted him??? Poor guy...

Looks like all 50-or-so discs they got are accounted for...

I was two people away from getting one of the copies of Oot/MQ from my local EB (Coquitlum, southern BC-pretty much the only video game store in the city).
I'm hoping two or more people don't pick up theirs.
Will you be my friend?

I've seen Timesplitters 2 and Baldurs Gate for $45 at Microplay in S. Ontario.

Where exactly was Baldur's Gate for $30?

Baldur's Gate can be found at Game Centre in Toronto at Yonge & St. Charles Street. It is also the place I got Spyro for $ 34.99.
Defender is $ 24.99.
