He set his bald head on fire- I'm not sure how he kept from burning it, but that's what a bunch of people said who've been to Pain concerts.

I was at a site called SongMeanings a second ago- I don't know if you've ever been there, masterpiece, but it's basically a site that catelogs lyrics to thousands of songs and allows people to post in a kind of message board format under the song about what they think it means. Anyway, I was looking at some for At The Drive-In, and I never really realised it, but their lyrics are *really* deep. Where as Pain's are light hearted and humerous, there's some real emotion in At The Drive-In's songs. For one thing, I didn't know Napolean Solo was about a couple friends of the band who died in a car crash on the way to the show, or Transatlantic Foe was about the cold war (although I could gleen hints of Russia from the title alone). It really gives you respect for bands that go through the trouble of comnig up with such incredibly smart lyrics. I really have to thank you for turning me on to a great band, masterpiece.

I'll be at Best Buy tomorrow- I'll probably pick up one or two of their CD's (I've got like $500- looking for a TV).

I wish i knew who mentioned them cause i am very happy to have learned about them. That's why i do my best to promote them.

yeah they are deep.

Notice in Napoleon Solo it says march 23rd in the chorus. I knew instantly that Transatlantic Foe was about the Cold war. If you get their cd's i recommend their last 3.

Napoleon solo and transatlantic foe are in their in-CASINO-out cd.
Rascauche is in their Vaya cd.
and Arcarsenal.. cosmonaut..invalid litter dept. ... one armed scissor... and all other great songs are in their last cd whish is relationship of command

i can anaylyse andything you want to know about at the drive-in so ask me anything.

but to tell you the truth, i regret every single time i tell people about At the Drive-In or Mars Volta little by little.

I like them underground and i don't want Mars Volta to get famous. I like underground just because the feel you get that you're listening to underground and no-one knows and you don't want them to know.

Yeah, but with everyone who doesn't listen to them, they won't stay around.

I've personally introduced Pain to all my friends, although all of them thought they were strange except for one, who loved them ( gave him 2 CD's with most of their songs). Popularity doesn't necessarily mean the band will be bad, or anything like that.

Anyway, they only had one copy of one album- it had 7 songs and it was $10, so I decided to pass.

Masterpiece, if you're still around- I think I have another band you might like. My sister got me really interested in Finch (I guess as pay back for getting her to like At the Drive-In

). They're a lot like At the Drive-In, if you haven't heard them, but still different (for one they don't yell as much as At the Drive-In). I really think you'd like them. They were actually on Conan O'Brien last night.

Oh, that's really hard with Tchaikovsky, but I'd have to say the 1812 Overture followed closely by March Slave. Both are really mvoing peaces for me, although in different senses. Personally,I love how March Slave starts off very somber.

BTW, love the Futurama quote in your thread.

That was such a great episode.

Masterpiece: I was looking at a few people's opinions on what Cosmonaut meant- very intruiging. Many seem to think it's referencing the TWA plane crash and the cover up from the government. Very interesting.

I LOVE One Armed Scissor- it's such a great song. What do you think they meant by it, though?

Just made a couple At the Drive-I CD's.

One has the entire In/Casino/Out album plus 11 other songs and the other has the entire Relationship of Command album plus 11 other songs (god Non-Zero Possibility is so great).

hey. i'm guessing that one armed scissor has to do with some kind of virus..... that sneaks into something... and breaks(cuts) something away... then the things on the object(guessing the other half of a scissor) that broke away are in trouble and are sending a message to the other end of a scissor.

well... that's obviously not what it means, but it is what the song says.

No offense taken about Pain- I guess they really only appel to a select few people.

Glad you like Finch, though- I personally never thought I'd like anything other than classical until I got hooked on Pain.

I want to listen to some more Mars Volta, but I can't find a whole lot of their stuff and the stuff I DO find is really bad quality.

Concertina, I believe it's called, is a great song, though.

i know we talked about this about 2 months ago...but i just went to the atari, yellowcard, and juliana theory concert this past sunday and downtown disney in anehiem, cali.....i must say that yellowcard is just amazing.....the electric violen does it for me.....i am kind of new to that type of music, but i liked them way better then juliana theory(lets just say i understand why its called *juliana*

) and the atari's just werent as good imo......if u havent listend to their music yet and u enjoy anything punk or emo or at least open to it.....i suggest u try them out.

Meh, I'm not much into Emo (it's good music, but I'm not crazy about it), so I don't pay attention too much to bands like Yellow Card or Julianna Theory or Coheed and Cambria (although I like their concept a lot). The Ataris I love though- easily one of my 5 favorite bands.

Masterpiece- I downloaded some live performances of At the Drive-In, and I have to say, they really put on a show. Cedric's running around, throwing the mike, jumping off the drums. Finch is a lot like that in their performance- their lead singer basically just spazzes out.

It's quite a sight when two guys with huge afros are freaking out on stage.

I dont' remember Sparta putting on that much of a show, but then again my memory's a bit fuzzy and we were pretty far back. Too bad that they started WAY before Dashboard, too, when everybody was still getting into the stadium, so they didn't get a whole lot of attention.

yeah sparta's not all that great with the shows and stuff. But their guitarist bobs his head and spins a lot. he was hte bassist for ATD-I and when he plays guitar in Sparta he seems like he's playing bass.

the rest are alright and Sparta's singer/guitarist likes to go a tiny bit crazy when he's not singing. and the drummer is pretty crazy like all drummers are.

that's about it about Sparta.

actually they were pretty good. better than most lead guitarists in popular bands today. its just that they don't look as good when playing next to omar.

and plus they helped with a lot of songwriting if u know what i mean... imagine how the song napoleon solo would be if they weren't there.

Speaking of which, all of ATDI's songs are *beautifully* written- I have no doubt the whole band helps throughout the entire process. While I love Pain's lyrics for telling a funny story and working with the music, I have to say that At the Drive-In probably has the best written songs I've ever heard.
