Famitsu 6/18 - 6/24

1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo) - 290,000
2. Itadaki Street DS (Square-Enix) - 140,000
3. Practice by Observing: DS Observation Training (Nintendo) - 50,000
4. Growlanser VI (Atlus)
5. Wii Sports (Nintendo)
6. Hajime no Ippo: Revolution (AQ Interactive) - 25,480
7. Mana-Khemia: The School Alchemists (Gust)
8. More English Training (Nintendo)
9. More Brain Age (Nintendo)
10. Wii Play (Nintendo)

Folks Soul (PS3) - 16,629
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3) - 12,264
Saints Row (360) - 9,036

DS - 166,362
Wii - 66,357
PS3 - 9,665
360 - 4,058

DS sales seem really really low compared to the supposed shipment #'s, and the same can be said with the the Zelda sales #'s too. I expected DS to sell more than 250k this week and Zelda was reported to have done more than 350k in its first 2 days.

Nintendo's failure in Japan is becoming more apparent each week.

(that was sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell)

But seriously, maybe the DS completely sold out?

For a second I had flashbacks to Mario's classic posts...

With Ninja Gaiden and Folks Soul hitting the top 20 in rapid succession, can the revival of PS3 be far off?

Those Zelda numbers are still pretty decent, I think...
That's my opinion, not yours.

Actually they are really good considering that its only for the 1st day of sales and the original shipment was for 400k copies. Zelda TP still hasn't hit 500k in Japan and PH might just get there within a week in a re-stock happens today.

p.s. PH was released on a Saturday.

Folks Soul will continue to drop like new albums from 2Pac and NGS will be off the charts by next week. There will be veirtually no change in PS3 hardware sales this week or next, and everyone will be waiting to see if Everybody Golf 5(or whatever its called) manages to make a blip on the PS3 radar.

Isn't Zelda really not that popular over Japan anyway? Still, I would hope it can at least sell a million. It is a DS game, after all...

TP probably hasn't reached a million in Japan KDR. And WW moved like 900k... so yes. Zelda could be considered "on a decline" in Japan, and Nintendo has spoken out to that effect. That's why Miyamoto gave his sister (and through her, non/casual-gamers) a shout out when talking about PH. He's hoping that PH is the Zelda game to expand the series' stagnating audience.

And it looks like PH is off to a good start! I read somewhere that PH actually didn't sell out first day, but over several days, as if casual and non-gamers were trickling in after the hardcore gamers had front-loaded first day sales.

Ratchet and Clank 5 - the Japanese know how to name their damn sequels!  Why when I was a kid, etc...

I'm glad to see Phantom Hourglass doing well.  I hope the game's success (and by extension, design) inspires some interesting stuff in the next Zelda for Wii.

Thats surprisingly untrue a lot of the time.  Anyway I had it linked to a variety of sources when I first wrote the thing which covered it will be everyone said it was too busy.

Did the PS3 get a Japanese price cut as well?
Also Swords is posed to give Phantom Hourglass some company.

HIstorically Famitsu is "undertracking" and the numbers will be adjusted over the next week or two.
Most people that track the sales usually go by MC, and use Famitsu as a backup/alternative source.

Either way, you just have to pick one source and go by thier #'s to keep things consistent.

Thats why SalesBot post Famitsu in the DS sales thread and MC in the Wii sales thread.

edited: because MC updated their #'s

Carmine Red, Associate Editor

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.
