I think the shortages are on purpose, there are only so many DS' to be had, and they would rather keep the game burning up the charts for weeks to come than to have one big explosion and then fizzle out.

Well, atleast thats what I think they are doing...

I would think they would much rather recoup their losses with instant gratification in terms of profit than purposely keep it in low supply.. Besides, people who want the game are going to be pretty upset if they can't get it soon, and might just skip on it altogether if they do that.

The DS has been in short supply and because of it people just keep wanting more and more of it. That is what I think SE is trying to acheive, and I hope thier gamble pays off in the long run.

I thought the DS was in short supply because Nintendo couldn't make enough!

Actually, this is an interesting point: if Nintendo is truly having problems meeting demand, then the sales shouldn't really go up much during the holiday season.  Of course, you could argue Nintendo is stockpiling units for that time because it knows demand is going to be even higher, but either way, that would suggest that Nintendo is artificially creating demand.

Oh yeah, and half a million?  Nice.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Man, the DS software tie ratio has to be absolutely huge. Too bad FF3 didn't sell any more DS's than usual. Looks like nobody will buy a Nintendo system for third party games, that has to be massively worrying for any company who has announced DS games without Mario in them. No wonder PSP is getting all the most fantastic support, third parties have been thinking ahead.

It's bad enough that it's been ages since we've seen a GC game in the top 10. But it only adds insult to injury that the GBA is all but dead as well, with Bit Generations and Rhythm Tengoku the FLOPS we all knew them to be.

Not a single non-DS game in the top ten? Seriously?

Wandering, are you blind? Look at the numbers for NSMB! Obviously the game's run out of steam. Rhythm Tengoku for the GBA is nowhere to be scene, can you say DEAD HANDHELD? Also, next week we could see the XBox outsellf the original GBA. Nintendo is obviously losing ground, and should go third-party before it's too late. Nothing is more pathetic than someone who just doesn't know when their time is up.

Wait, so now you're being sarcastic to make the DS look bad, instead of good? WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU ON?

Or is it really the first top ten clean sweep of all time? I can't really tell.

I was wondering if it could ever sweep, and it DID! Yay!

I am curious, though. Are the bundle sales included in that DSLite number? Those bundles sold out and there were supposedly 200,000 of them.

Heh. I find it funny that Nintendo can artificially cause a spike in DS sales just by shipping more units that week. Then they can say it was caused by a certain game. So when "Touch DIC 2" comes out, Nintendo will be like, "Yep. That game sure sold tonnes of DSes. New audience. Nongamer strategy in the works, people.."

PSP sales actually dropped by less than the DS sales rose, that means when DS sales drop after this brief one week "moment" for Nintendo, DS sales will start dropping more than PSPs. So at this rate the PSP will continue on steady and by 2017 PSP will have caught up to DS in weekly sales. There's just no point Nintendo carrying on when this is inevitable.

Selected Sony qoutes from the past (stolen from gaf)

Quote

"The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance, those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it's the truth."

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a sparkling innovation - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that."

"Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon."

"PSP will elevate portable entertainment out of the handheld gaming ghetto, and Sony is the only company that can do it,"

Sound similar to Sony's rants about the PS3 being the only true Next Gen System?

Yes, it'd be pretty damn insulting to Nintendo to compare any of their handhelds to the PSP mroe liek NGage

Heh... my favorite quote (from the website owner no less!) was "The DS doesn't have any features, at all, anyone would want in a system" He has since, uh..., recognized the error of his statement. But he still calls "us" sheep for buying it.

The other "good" quote from this 'gamer' news website, was "I dig the PSP. I like it because the game library actually has real games. Not tarted up Flash games with delusions of grandeur." KTHXBY
