Considering that 7 of the top 10 and 15 of the top 30 are DS titles (3 and 12 are PS2, respectively) I'd say it's Nintendo for the win.

Wait, WHAT? Oh, this. Strange, Lik-Sang doesn't list that. I've seen a link to a GAF post complaining about the game, he says there's nothing but fighting in there but then forgets to describe the fighting itself. That's like complaining about the storyline of Serious Sam!

The end of DS-Lites reign has occured, dropping a massive 62% in one week of sales. Even if PSP sales stay the same PSP will take over the lead with this continued massive drop.
Nintento need to pull something out of the bag immediately, havent they learnt anything from GCN? Surely they can get some third party to release a system seller rather than always relying on "brain training" and "mario" to lead the brigade.

With this projected rate of decline DS-lite sales will be in single figures in 10 weeks time!

probably closer to 500k though, and Nintendo held back on DSL shipments to have enough for the release day of FFIII

I heard 450,000 copies.  Although I don't know if that includes copies bundled with the limited edition FFIII DSL.

I also heard there were 600,000 pre-orders, so not everyone who pre-ordered got their copy.

The FFIII DSL is probably also the reason for the drop in DSL sales for the week prior.  Nintendo probably agreed to make a certain number of them and they had to take some stock from the regular ones.

I wonder if FFIII will have lasting power or have a crazy high amount sold in the first few weeks and then drop off the charts? I think it'll be up there for awhile. And we have Pokemon right around the corner... then Zelda. DS will be around for a loooooong time. Any thoughts of a new Gameboy anytime soon are long gone.

On Hocotate's comment: I'm interested to see how FFIII does too.  I've heard some comments that RPGs tend to sell like crazy for a couple of weeks and then drop quickly in Japan, so I'll be watching the performance of this game closely.

You know, I just had a thought.  Maybe part of the reason DS games sustain high sales for so long is due to the shortages.  I mean, if everyone in Japan who wants a DS had one, maybe the games would just sell 2 million up front and then taper off.  Anyway, yeah, curious about those FFIII sales.
That's my opinion, not yours.

If it does have lasting power in the top 10, it may cause Square-Enix to rethink who is the better platform for their main franchise The DS is doing so well. While I don't think it will outlast Mario or Animal Crossing, I have a feeling FFIII will be up there for awhile.

I think it will sell fairly consistant, moreso than any other FF at least. The main reason is due to the weekly DS shortages. A large chunk of FF3 sales I imagine will be from people buying a DS for that game, these people might have to wait weeks and months to be able to get a DS, then they'll pick up FF3 and keep it floating in the top 10.

Final Fantasy Tops Half Million

August 29, 2006 - Japan's biggest game is, once again, Final Fantasy. According to a report on the entertainment page of Japan's Mainichi Interactive news site, Square Enix's Final Fantasy III topped the 500,000 mark in its first week of sales. The title was released for the DS on 8/24.

The site reports that Square Enix was originally expecting first week sales to cap off at 350,000 units.

Stupid idiots, only 350,000 for a high profile DS game? How dumb can you be? No wonder there's shortages. FLOP
