Maybe if you factor in when WCW was around and they both did between 3 and 5 in the ratings, then all wrestling combined maybe did double what WWE does now. TNA sucks. I wanted it to be good, and it was good for a while, but it sucks now...even with Sting...because Sting sucks. They should make a WWE game for the DS, that could have potential. Supposedly TNA is making a console game, but their roster changes every 2 weeks, so it's gonna be tough.

the ratings didnt hit as high as i thought, but they've hit over 6 many times(a quick google search shows they hit over 8 a few times). what do you mean about the roster changes? TNA(total non-stop action) has a fairly good and stable roster...they just dont have enough time on tv to show them all.

as for a wwe game for the ds, i'm actually suprised there isnt one yet.

The wrestling analysis is very very poor. With wrestling you have to tune in every single week to keep the ratings up. With your DS, you only have to purchase it once. DS numbers can't go down after they go up.

Yeah, wrestling is a bad analysis. Here's a better one: Comic books. The mainstream comic books have catered almost exclusively to their hardcore base for the past 10 years and the US comic book market continues to shrink and shrink.

That makes no sense either, because you have to continuously buy comic books! Once you own a system you never need to rebuy.

Tell that to a PS2 owner

Irregardless, comic books are individual products that the consumer purchases. video game consoles and video games are individual products as well.

ergo, Artimus is a four colored turtle!

Games is a more valid comparison, but system sales is what gets the most publicity and that's a one time thing.

Why is that a good thing? We don't need PSP fanboys in here rubbing our faces into the fact that Nintendo is horrible at shipping DS's. Next weeks sales will probably have PSP in front by a landslide, which will further increase Sonys lead. Nintendo's chance to catch up is almost blown.

Yeah but DS has been doomed in Japan for ages now, bad sales next week aren't going to be much of a shock when PSP has been kicking its arse time and time again since launch. Not even a fully fledged Pokemon game could save it now.

In Australia EB are offering the PSP with 2 totally crap (well just oz rules football highlights which you can pick up on DVD for like $5 each) and 2 craptastic games for $399 AUD.

The fact Sony are offering these bundles so soon after lauch here may mean it aint selling all that well.

In Kmart and Target the shelves are full with PSP movies and only a few games.

For comparison the DS with Nintendogs or Mario Cart is selling for between 175-190 AUD.

Late on the response but...

"I know this is off topic, but Ian you should check ou NWA:TNA wrestling. If you want to see real wrestling its the only game in town."

I've checked it out and I don't really like it.  I hate the six-sided ring, I hate the studio audience atmosphere (smarky crowds with stupid chants piss me off), and I hate the emphasis on Jeff Jarrett.  TNA claims to be an alternative but, like WCW was at it's worse, deep down it's WWE lite.  There's still tons of run-ins and weak swerves and non-clean finishes and the general sports entertainment bullsh!t that's made me bored of WWE.  The WWE's big weaknesses are that they force everyone to wrestle the same "WWE style", they rely on stale sports entertainment stuff like non-clean finishes and evil owners, they have too much non-wrestling content, and they have no idea how to make interesting storylines anymore.  A true alternative to the WWE would exploit these weaknesses by doing what the WWE has forgotten how to do and by eliminating the stale rehashed ideas that have gotten boring.  TNA's X-division is the only thing I feel really seperates them from WWE and even that needs a lot of work.  It's hard to get into because most of the X-division guys have bland personalities and, while being good at flippy-floppy stuff, don't grasp enough psychology to make their matches really memorable.  Right now YouTube provides my wrestling fix as I've found a lot of cool matches I've never seen on there.

Anyhoo getting back to the DS, it's not a one-time purchase.  The system is a one-time purchase but Nintendo doesn't benefit much (if at all) from people just buying the system.  The real money comes from games and that like a comic book or a TV show is a periodical purchase.  If Nintendo sells a DS to a non-gamer and a copy of Brain Training and then nothing else they haven't really grabbed that person.  It's important that the userbase of a system buys games on a regular basis.  You want them to be gamers in that gaming is a hobby and they buy at least one game a year.

Wrong. Other releases like English training will sell to these people. Very usefull for the Japanese when they travel, I hope they make other languages available. Plus:

- If not selling the console at a loss even one or 2 softwares gives them profit
-  It allows retailers to shift units off the shelf
-  It assists in invreasing the nuber of units sold at a faster rate to allow for the development cost to be recovered quicker, in turn allowing for new models (ie DS Lite) to be released.
- If people buy things like English training which the use for travel then they will probably buy at least one game to play especially if they travel by plane.
- If they stop using the DS for non games this will get handed down to other family members who may use it for gaming.

That's less DS games than usual.

Still extraordinary, of course.

Probably just Pokemon and Tetris. Animal Crossings success is pretty much limited to Japan though, everywhere else Nintendo screwed up HUGE by not taking it seriously / not shipping enough.

HARDWARE!

PSP: 25,905 (285,276)
DS: 25,321 (341,579)
PS2: 24,780 (195,456)
GBASP: 5,649 (46,933)
GBM: 3,199 (29,654)
Xbox 360: 2,194 (21,370)
GC: 2,138 (28,552)
GBA: 115 (1328)
Xbox: 101 (587)

Welp, too late, DS is already dead. Sony absolutely humiliated Nintendo this week, that's some serious PSP domination. Also Xbox 360 has overtaken GC, the momentum is with everyone except Nintendo, and they only have themselves to blame.

It's been over a MONTH of shortages, they better have 1 million DS Lites in stores day 1 otherwise people are just going to stop caring. This is absolutely ridiculous, and i'm being serious in this paragraph.

Nintendogs is currently the best selling DS game worldwide, it has passed 4 million now.
