REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 3, 2006 – Nintendo's 15 years of unsurpassed leadership in portable video gaming continued unabated through the 2005 holiday season. Sales figures show that Nintendo's dual-screened Nintendo DS™, fueled by hit software and new global Wi-Fi capability, has sold approximately 4 million units to date in North America alone. Combined with Game Boy® Advance, the world's most popular portable video game line, Nintendo now enjoys a combined U.S. market share of 78 percent.
Yep, that's 4 million in the US alone. They've sold over 5.5 million in Japan, so that's 9.55 million. That isn't even counting Europe! I'd estimate it's around 12 million. It's at LEAST 1 million, since they announced they'd sold 1 million Nintendogs in Europe, and I highly doubt Nintendogs has more than a 50% tie ratio with the system, so it's probably over 12 million.
For comparison PSP has sold 2.7 million in the US as of December 1, 2.5 million in Japan up til now. That's just over 5 million, and if i'm going to use 2 million for DS in Europe, I'll say PSP has done 1.5 million in Europe. (all I know about over there is that DS > PSP). Sooo..
DS - 12 million (just over)
PSP - 7 million (just under)

Nintendo also reports U.S. sales of Mario Kart® DS, released on Nov. 14 and featuring live, global Wi-Fi competition, has topped the 1 million mark in just seven weeks. And Nintendogs™, made for Nintendo DS, has surpassed sales of 1.5 million units since its U.S. launch in August.
That is quite big! Perhaps Nintendo DS is coming back in the US after all, I can't wait for December NPD numbers. That would mean Mario Kart DS sold over 700,000, and Nintendogs over 600,000. They didn't mention Animal Crossing in the press release, probably because they destroyed its sales by not shipping enough.
