Mother needing quick help GBA to GC link
« on: January 06, 2005, 05:10:59 PM »
I have a 6 year old daughter, who obviously wouldn't have the games that most of you would have played. But, I got her a GBA to GC link today and I cannot get it to work. (This was bought to replace something else that wouldn't work for her GBA.!) SO she's a bit "down" right now. I was told by Walmart that maybe she didn't have the "link-compatible" games. But how would I find out if they are.. Surely, in SOME of the games that she has, they would be "link-compatible", wouldn't they??? Can someone please help, she has had the worst luck lately with things!

There's an icon on the back of the GameCube cases that indicates if it will connect to the GBA. Some GCN games will connect to a GBA by itself, while some GCN games require a certain game to be in the GBA to connect. The manual should have instructions on how to setup the connection for that particular game.

Report back if you're still having trouble. What games does she have? We'd all recommend Pac-Man Vs. if you don't have that yet.

Did you buy a third-party cable? Some of those have a shoddy quality and tend to lose connection. The official cable I got with FFCC works perfectly.

It's so cool to see a mother do something like this for her kid.  Definitely admirable.  And brave; the internet is a dangerous place.

I'm not too familiar with the GBA/GC connecting, not owning a GBA myself, but the others seemed to have put it rather well.  Stick with official products, definitely.  Also, I highly recommend Four Swords (it's a Gamecube game and can use a controller, but for multiplayer you need two to four GBAs).  I've only played single player and it was fun, so if your kid has friends with GBAs it should be a total blast.  You'll need all the connection cords, of course.
I suppose I'll let you do your own shopping. Just, if it's convenient and possible, Four Swords is a really fun game.

You do know that the GBA/GC link cable does not allow you to play Game Boy Advance games on the GameCube, right?  I remember when I worked retail, there were quite a few parents that had that misconception...
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
