First off, my take on a gaming revolution is to better the experience for the user and make games fun....
So with that in mind ... here's an idea for a partial step to make gaming revolutionary with regards to controlers and players.
Remove the controler ports.  Not 4.... zero.  Build off of the Wavebird concept and just go to a full wireless approach.  That way using the rf spectrum available you could have say 1-16 controlers talking to one gamecube.  Now obviously not all games will benefit from more than 4 players (mostly those that have to split the screen).  However there are a lot the could.  Smash Brothers with 2-8 players?   Sports titles where all team members are a human controlled character.
