Namco trade and I'm not happy...
« on: December 10, 2004, 07:59:07 AM »
Anyone else find it extremely odd that Namco announced a Xenosaga game for DS and a Tales game for PSP?  Whats with the switch all the suddent?  We're getting the short end of this stick.

Maybe Namco's goal is to attract Nintendo fans to the PSP and vice versa.  Odds are if you're a major fan of the PS2 or Cube you're going to be more interested in the portable that corresponds with your favourite console maker.  By swapping games now you've got Cube fans looking at the PSP and PS2 fans looking at the DS.  This in theory increases the likelyhood of someone buying both or at the very least paying attention to both.

Like Mario and Tales of Symphonia?  You gotta get both portables.
Like Gran Turismo and Xenosaga?  You gotta get both portables.

It's kind of sucky for us but it could be a sound strategy.

How are we getting the short end of the stick?  Its not like the GBA and GCN together have this huge library of great RPGs.

"How are we getting the short end of the stick?"

I think the implication is that Tales is better than Xenosaga, which I agree with.

However we're also getting Baten Kaitos on DS, so it's not all bad. BK is an awesome title IMO.

My hierarchy of modern console RPGs I've played goes like this: ToS > FF6/7 > Paper Mario 2 > Baten Kaitos > KotoR > FF9 > Xenosaga > FFeverthingelse.

I would complain if GBA and GCN had the amount of RPGs PSX and PS2 have.  Right now Nintendo systems are in need of anything.

Well I wouldn't worry too much. The Tales team has voiced interest in the DS, and one might come for the DS. Besides, there are 2 wings to the Tales series. Theres a Tales of Phantasia wing which is on Nintendo, and a Tales of Destiny wing which is on Sony.

Although its only 2 games, Tales of Phantasia and its sequel Symphonia have at least been on Nintendo so lets hope the trend continues.

I for one appreciate the variety. Unfortunately I have a feeling Xenosaga won't come to Europe because the PS2 games didn't, either.

What's with the hate with Xenosaga?  I loved the first game, and I getting the second one.  And I will most likely get the DS version of Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos if they actually see the light of day and are translated into English.  I loved Tales of Symphonia, but I also love Xenosaga, and Baten Kaitos.

Besides, where is the sequel to ToS that was supposed to be on the GCN?

Awww, I love.....Xenogears I haven't played Saga, but gears was awesome. Also I would like a remak/portable of Chrono Trigger on the DS, I'd love those guys who where on the CT:R project to work on it.

Man to this day I'm pissed at SE for killing it, those heartless bastards

Yeah Chrono Trigger: Resurection would've been awesome... Why did Square had to stop them? They weren't gonna make money out of it...

Namco didn't really trade ya know? NONE I repeat NONE of the Tales of games are Nintendo exclusives.

Tales of Phantasia (SNES PSX GBA)
Tales of Symphonia (NGC japan only -> PS2)
Tales of Destiny (PSX)
Tales of Destiny II (PSX)
Tales of Destiny NOT II (PS2)
Tales of Rebirth (PS2) not released yet
Tales of Eternia Online (PC) not released yet

Ahuh, yeah, Sony beats Nintendo on this one.

And Tales of Eternia on the PSP was originally Tales of Destiny II PSX, which was on a Sony console all along. Yup it aint a new game. O and there's also a Tales of Destiny II on the PS2 but technically it's part 3 so I don't know why they called it that... The only reason I can think of is that the they didn't release 1 of the 2 other Destiny titles in japan. But that would be weird...

Xenosaga ain't so bad... but it's not that good either. I got sick of the nonsensical story, got stuck on a hard boss and saw no reason to continue playing.

I hate it when developers go overboard with story. It usually means they're trying to hide something.

yeah, I had the same experience with xenosaga, I didn't really enjoy the leveling up scheme and I too got stuck in a spot where I couldn't return from or level up in.  Xenogears was a way better game and I wish they'd go back to that style.
