Power of Nintendo DS

Does anyone know how the NDS compares to N64 is graphics? I realize NDS lacks texture filtering (thus the sometimes grainy looking graphics), but I could sware that the games look more detailed and run smooth than they do on the N64, Mario 64 looks crisper and seems to run smooth. In addition Metroid Prime Hunters looks quite impressive even if it does have the "grainy" look to it, and runs very smooth.

It's powerful, and technically more impressive than the N64, but games like Yoshi's Balloon Trip (or Catch! Touch! Yoshi! or Touch & Go or whatever the hell the final name is) looks better than most games i've ever seen.
