It's like an ICBM waiting to explode in your pants!

ATLUS U.S.A. , INC. SET TO RELEASE "SUPER ARMY WAR" FOR THE NINTENDO GAME BOY® ADVANCE IN FEBRUARY 2005

Not just any army war - a SUPER army war!

Irvine , CA, November 30, 2004 - Atlus U.S.A. , Inc., a leading publisher of interactive entertainment, announced today its plans to publish Super Army War , an action-packed military combat game scheduled to ship in February 2005 for the Nintendo Game Boy® Advance.

War has erupted and the President has issued the order: engage the enemy! America needs a pilot brave enough to fly across enemy lines, strike the enemy at its heart, and defend our advancing ground troops. Do you have what it takes?

Lay down suppressing fire so US tanks can roll into position. Decimate enemy bunkers with a well-placed missile while avoiding fierce anti-aircraft fire. Deploy soldiers to reclaim lost territory. Rescue civilians caught in the crossfire. Perform high-speed bombing runs. Do all this and more in Super Army War . When was the last time you gamed for your country?

"Super Army War delivers tight, old-school arcade gameplay and mixes it up with some great tactical elements," said Akibo Shieh, Project Commander at Atlus U.S.A. , Inc. "It's like an ICBM waiting to explode in your pants!"

Super Army War Key Features:

  • Take the helm of two different vehicles: chopper and fighter plane!
  • Create and manage ground forces in real-time!
  • Launch secret attacks like the V2 rocket and Broken Arrow !
  • Engage in sixteen missions over a variety of terrain, including frozen wastelands and palm tree-laden beachheads.
  • Password System lets you resume the campaign at any time!

Super Army War has a suggested retail price of $19.99 and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Oh, wow; from the screenshots, it looks like an updated version of the old Apple II game, "Rescue Raiders", mixed with a bit of "Wings of Fury". For those not versed in obscure games, "Rescue Raiders" was the first-ever RTS (yes, years before Dune 2). You would pilot a chopper in support of ground forces that you'd purchase. The ground forces could take on enemy forces, hold ground, repair emplacements, or even board your chopper and parachute out. If this game is anything like "Rescue Raiders", it'll be great.

Wings of Fury= Good times, good times....

Who would've thought some other human soul on this earth played that game! I thought I was the only one.

I'll probably give this game a look if its anything remotely similar to WoF.

Super Army War is hands down the most ridiculous game title I've ever heard.

It reminds me more of Choplifter, to be honest, though more of the attacking role rather than the rescuing.

It should... this practically is Choplifter.  The only real difference I see is the ability to pick your initial unit.  (even the houses look the same!)

At least you can be a jet this time, hopefully to reap revenge for all those times in choplifter when they come swooping down and killing you with a pair of missiles (overkilling loons).

No, Choplifter only allowed you to pick up and drop off people, as well as strafe. Rescue Raiders allowed you to do those tasks, but also drop bombs. You could also buy units and send them to destroy the enemy's HQ. The description of Super Army War says that you buy units, and if you look at the screenshots, you can see vehicles and infantry on the bottom moving both ways, just like in Rescue Raiders. In fact, now that I look at the screenshots again, I can even recognize very similar units: an anti-aircraft truck and infantry.

Well, I won't speculate any more about its similarity to Rescue Raiders, since I may end up being totally wrong when more information becomes available.

But yeah, Djunknown, Wings of Fury was great for its time. If you really want to play it again, you can get it for the Game Boy Color. It was a pretty good conversion. I still pull it out for my GBA every so often. (Too bad the DS doesn't play GBC games...)
