Wow, anyone else pick this game up?

So far im not really that far in (4hrs worth) but what ive seen ive loved.

Except one thing leveling up is weird, u must pray at a church to realize your true strenghts in order to level up and class up.  With my luck i didn't figure this out and when i finally did my character jumped up 5 levels, and 1 class, LOL

Something I've been wondering now for the past few months ... exactly how does one pronounce Baten Kaitos?  I haven't seen any commercials for it, and none of my friends know either.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Bah-ten Keye-toes?  I don't know since I don't have the game but that's how I assume it's pronounced.

Well, it's pretty horrible Arabic.

Batn Kayy-tos (ka as in karma) would be my guess, but then again I've never heard the word "Kaitos" in Arabic. Maybe it's a different dialect.

there is a developer interview at gamespot, i believe he pronounced it bat-in-ki-toes.  I'm not totally sure myself, if it is driving you crazy go to (http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/rpg/batenkaitos/index.html?q=baten)  The video clip is free to stream on that link's page!

According to NAL's website, 'TBA', but that hardly means much. I think the general consensus is Q1 2005.

Baah-TEN KY-tose.

"Ky" as in "Kyle."

And it is Arabic.  Shinji Noguchi, producer, say that it's an Arabic term for a star located in the center of the Cetus (whale) constellation.  Hence the whale we see at the end of the opening FMV.

It actually means "belly of a whale" in Arabic, if I'm not mistaken. It's pretty horrible Arabic though, the way they spell it. The "e" should be silent.

Only a little... I've got a working knowledge of Arabic from where I grew up, but I'm planning to learn more sooner or later.

I know the basics... can have a small conversation with most Arabic people. And of course, a few choice swearwords here and there, because nothing is more fun than insulting people to their face when they can't tell if you did or not. Enta homar.

It's not that impressive, it's just another language, although it is harder than French and English to learn.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm on disc 2 of this game now... it's absolutely gorgeous, and the battle system is much deeper than I thought it would be. What I love most about this game is the obvious imagination that went into it... some of the weirdest dungeons and enemies I've ever seen. It's like playing through a fairytale spun by an insane lunatic. Granted, some of the pieces are cliche, but their presentation definitely isn't, and that more than makes up for it for me.

What were you trying to say Paladin? Im fluent arabic and I couldnt make out that swear word.

If and when someone finishes it can you please tell me the longevity of the game and if it is any good compared to Tales.

zelos, what dialect of Arabic do you speak? That was Masri.

As for the Carroll analogy, yeah, that's pretty accurate.

Im from Syria so I speak it quite fluently. Its the only way I talk to certain family members as not all of them know english very well.

And too keep on topic I wanna also ask if the characters devolep as deep as they do in Tales of Symphonia, the charectars in TOS were my favourite part of the game.

They get into the two main character pretty deeply. And the supporting characters well not as well. Its basically centered all around the male lead though and somewhat the female lead.

zelos, Syrian Arabic is a type of the Shami/Levantine group, like Lebanese if I'm not mistaken. There's plenty of different dialects of Arabic and some of them are practically different languages. I know Egyptian/Masri Arabic is entirely different from Syrian and Lebanese, which would explain it.

Back on topic. I really like some of the characters here... none of them match Kratos of course, but it's not like any RPG character will ever quite match Kratos. And besides, I play with the voices off so it's harder to get attached to them.

So this game uses some arabic terms, right? Then can anyone tell me if Mira has any arabic meaning or what does it relate to in any way to the real world? I'm just curious because my family name from my father's part is exactly Mira. Btw, I haven't been to Mira yet in the game so don't spoil anything for me.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this game beautifully gorgeous!

Also, it could be the first part of "Mirage".

As for Arabic, not as far as I know. It does sound like a normal Arabic name though.

LOL, never thought of it being part of the word Mirage. Nevertheless it's awesome to at least find your family name in a game.

Btw, to those that have finished the game, when you finished the game did you have seen/collected every card available in the game or were there still some? I'm only like close to 20 hours to this game and I have like 225/1022 cards that I've seen/collected, is that a good or am I being too lazy?
