Now i LOVE final fantasy, i do not own a ps2 or ps1 but have found away to beat them all. I love all the ones in the original systems too. But i can't find ANYTHING on CC. I am very desperate to hear what you kind posters have to say.

I know I will get FF:CC, and even though I know i'll enjoy it, I'm not really getting my hopes up for it.

Part of me really wishes they had stuck with the Final Fantasy Unlimited game rathter than canning it and making FF:CC

Damn son, we thought of the same thing at almost the exact same time(see locked "CIA" FF: CC thread). I just want some gameplay details. I dare assume that with Square back with Nintendo the finished product will end up anything less than magical. Or, it could be like ...oh nevermind I wont jinx it.

Personally, I am guardedly optomistic. I hated FF8 and 9, and from what I have seen, FFX isn't that great. FFXI is of course, someone's sick idea of a joke, and FF-X2... well... I might prefer playing Tomb Raider (and I HATE Tomb Raider). Basically, that covers all the recent Final Fantasies. But to be fair, I haven't played FFX yet. I am just going on word of mouth and plot details I have picked up here and there.

Final Fantasy IX I thought had some real potential. The character and art design were excellent, the soundtrack was quite nice, and the combat system was awesome. However, a boring plot and weak characters killed the game for me. It became my second least favorite Final Fantasy after that. (behind Mystic Quest, but after FF2j)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has some real similarities with FF9, and I respect that. I just hope it does it right this time around. I want to see a classic Final Fantasy once more.

Hey, with Square and Nintendo working on Final Fantasy i expect it to be a very good game, not anything less than magical.
Square or Nintendo should start up a site soon, giving us bios of the characters and story plot!

I read a synopsis of the story once, but I can't remember where I saw it. (The Magic Box maybe?)

It seems that a village is protected by a magical force, which must be replenished every year. In a new year celebration or something like that, 4 young people are selected to retrieve some more Mana to replenish the village's barrier from a dangerous area outside the village's protection. Things kind of go from there.

Mind you, it's been a long time since I read the synopsis, so I don't remember quite clearly... but it's sort of like that. I just thought I would throw it in, since you sparked my memory of it, and everyone here seems ravenous for information.

nintendo.com: "This all-new epic, an exclusive to the Nintendo GameCube, will be published in January 2003 in Japan." If that's true, there should be screenshots and story spoilers floating around. Anyway, im ridicilously hyped about this game. It looks deep, magic, fun, great in any which way. This is like 2nd on my wanted list after zelda.

I heard it was going to be like Secret of Mana 2. I got a that on a ROM and I have been playing it and i have to say its just about the greatest rpg ever. The number one reason i like it so much is that it is not turn based so i dont get bored just sitting there waiting for someone elses turn to happen. For me, it is like a Diablo game with a good story and a little less action.
Does FFCC require a GBA? I wont buy it if it does and that will be very bad and make me very angry

Also i heard it requires 4 human players at all times...that is also not good.

you know what, it does kinda remind me of mana in an indescribable way. Maybr it is the idea now planted in my head, but i dont think so. I agree with what else someone said, that the style looks like FF IX, however that was my seocnd favorite, just cause of the love story, i thought it was a good example of a japanese idea of love in a game.

On a side note, i just got my OoT/MQ disc today, and i allready beat the deku tree... in 20 minutes. But i still had so much fun reminiscing and such. It was truly a great experience to relive the game again on my cube.

Back to FF:CC, from that little synopsis i can allready see a FF plot forming. Whenever there is a little village like the one described, there is usually a big tech world outside of it. And you know they just would love to get there hands on that Mana. I JUST WANT TO SEE AN AIRSHIP ON MY CUBE. Here's hoping for some good word about it. Thanks for your posts so far, keep um coming.

I personally think that Crystals Chronicles will be great. At least that is what I sincerly hope, since in my opinion the greatest Final Fantasy was FFVI (FFIII in the U.S.) Since Squaresoft left Nintendo, they have yet to reproduce that magic. All the playstation Final Fantasies have been good, but no where near the Super Nintendo glory days. I hope Square brings back the old school goodness on the Cube.

What does FF6 (akaFF3-US) have that FF7/9 do not? (just curious) I've played FF6 and it was a very good game, but I didn't think it was superior to FF7 or FF9. What does FF6 have that makes it so outstanding in your mind?

Also would you rate FF4 (akaFF2-US) beter or worse than FF7/9? (again just curious)

if you look at some of the screenshots at gamescreenshots, you can see that there are certainly parts that look just like the Secret of Mana series. notably the one with all 4 characters on the screen at once.

I was worried at first, hearing that it was an action RPG, but it looks like it's turning into something great.

I think this game will be a really great game. Im very excited about this game and unless its no fun at all with less than 2players, or is controlled only with a GBA (which I highly doubt since Square never said so, just said the GBA COULD be used).

Im hoping its as long as FFX with less movies, more magical and just cooler. After all, its realtime action battles which I love.

Personally, I loved FFVIII (one of the best IMO) and can't stand FFVI (which many people say is the best) so what does that say? I'm hoping they don't stick to boring old "classic" FF for this game, make it innovative and new with just a bit of the old flair. And before anybody starts talking trash, I did play all the old-school FF games, when they first came out. I just (shock and horror) like the new FF games better.

Anyway, it looks like Square has the right idea with this game, especially the 4-player thing. It's like Secret of Mana on GC, maybe better! I think I'll trust their judgement on this one (like I'm trusting them with FFX-2)

2) Final Fantasy Tactics
3) Final Fantasy VII

6) Final Fantasy IIIj
7) Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IIj
9) Final Fantasy IX
10) Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

AlphaDragoon, it would seem that you and I are wishing for exact opposites in Crystal Chronicle. I hope that through some miraculous act we are both pleased with the end result, but I really have to shake my head at your taste. There's just no accounting for it.

As for Secret of Mana on GameCube, word has it that Brownie Brown (makers of Seiken Densetsu (Mana)) series are working on a GameCube game. Maybe we will see something at E3?

when i play an Rpg, i look for 1 very important element, story. To me the rpg is like a living anime epic. The story doesn't have to be huge, just well told. And out of the story, my favorite part is the romance involved. Like in FFIX, i thought Dagger and Zidan had the best example of an in game love story i have ever seen. I played the game through just to watch it develope. I smiled my biggest smile ever when the cutscene came where Zidan swung and saved Dagger. VIII also had an awsome love story. X's was ok, but I died alittle inside when Aries died in VII. However in answer to my favorite, I withhold an opinion. I think each game had a story that was worth playing to see. This is also why i put in the general post Grandia II on dreamcast as my fav game of all time. It's all about the story.
Oh yeah, and i found no problem with any of the games gameplay. When i say i am a FF fan i mean it. It has been too long since i played the old ones so i can't remeber much, but i did play the japanese ones that werent released in america.
Anyway, that game better get on the shelves soon, and i mean it. I just pray for a good plot, with better characters.

Ok, I am swinging WAAAY off topic now, but RahXephon, have you ever played Xenogears? That is by far the best RPG ever made. There's a love story far more epic than anything in any Final Fantasy game, and enough action and adventure for any gamer. I don't share your love for a great love story, but this game is truly something different. The ONLY reason I would buy a PS2 is for Xenosaga.

I am about the most hardcore Nintendo fan you will ever meet. I do try to be fair though, and Xenosaga seriously has the potential to be the greatest game ever made. When I say that I have a desire to get a PS2 for that game, you better believe it's something special.

Regarding Final Fantasy IX however, I thought the characters were far too cliched and flat, and the story was laughable. I really don't know what you saw in the game.

i thought like nintendo games it was just fun. I just enjoyed it for what it was. So what if things were expected, it doesn't mean there not good things. But no, i havent played Xenogears or xenosagas. I never owned a ps1, I had a PS2 for 2 days, then returned it after realizing there were only 2 games i was interested. The only systems i have always owned were nintendo's and segas. I always had both. I was not biased towards either, i love sega and i love nintendo.
But i know that the xenogear/saga's are supposed to be something speacial. And i need to play them. it is not a want, it is a need. My friend has ps2, and i told him i would buy him the games, if i could come over and play them now and then. So i am gonna do that. So that is that, i just LOVVEEEEEEEEE RPG's. Mario RPG was one of the best games ever.
