Wow, curious as to what the PS2 channel at IGN had to say about the RE4 situation, I stumbled across a mailbag laced with large concentrations of fanboyism. Apparently Killzone, a potential Halo killer, was reviewed at a 7.5 and PS2 owners are losing their f*ing minds. For some reason this was a huge pick-me-up psychologically for me. PS2 fanboys are terrible possibly the worst of them all. I think I like the casual gamer more...
So check it out and if this topic doesn't spark discussion don't lose any sleep about closing it.

I find Sony fanboys to be quite odd since there is really no reason to be a fan of Sony's. The PS2 fanbase is huge because the PS2 is the market leader. That's it. Those same people would be Nintendo or MS fanboys if those consoles were the market leader. Sony does release some first party titles but those aren't the games the fanboys are fans of. I've never met a diehard Sony nut praise ICO which is probably the best title Sony has ever made. Instead it's hardcore gamers who own a PS2 solely because of it's sheer amount of games that praise that title.

It makes a lot of sense to be a Nintendo fanboy because Nintendo's reputation is largely based on their own titles. It even makes sense to be an MS fanboy because at the very least they have published some of the most popular titles on the Xbox including Halo. But a Sony fanboy? Most of the Playstation love is for third party titles which Sony has nothing to do with.

Well IAN you know how dumb casual gamers are their only blaming Sony because they see the Diamond Sony logo on the game box so they precieve Sony made Killzone and casual gamers dont understand that Sony is the publisher and Guerilla Games developed it.

Sometimes causal gamers only blame the console manufacter on a bad 3rd party game.

yeah, that stuff's always gonna happen. I mean, if Halo 2 got a 9.2 or something, I'm sure there'd STILL be hate mail from people. So ya, it's pretty much expected from all fanboys now. I tihnk the most toleratable are PC fanboys though... or GBA ones!

No way! The PC fanboys I know are terrible, they play counter strike and warcraft for about 10 hours a day (which wouldn't be a problem, except that they're the SAME GAMES over and over again), whenever they can. They completely dismiss any game on a console as being crap, and REFUSE to play anything without a mouse and keyboard, what's worse is they go out of their way to tell me reasons why the Nintendo "crap" i'm playing is bad. I suppose there would be fanboys of anything that are like that, but that's just how i see PC fanboys from my experiences. And when I question why they spent thousands of dollars upgrading for a few extra textures, they go insane.

Anyway, Sony fanboys, it's hilarious watching them defend sony hardware.

"Battery life isn't important!"

"I've had this PS2 since launch!"

No way! Hahaha, yeah I've heard many of those as well. It's just I sometimes I peer into the Gamespot "System Wars" forums... holy crap that place is rampant with fanboys of all kinds. It's really scary, they can spin stuff better than Michael Moore.

On another fanboy note, anyone go to Penny-Arcade? They talked about the killzone thing a bit, and had a comic about fanboys too...

I view fanboy being somewhat different. You can still like the other competitor stuff but support the one you love the most. Fanboyism is ok its just that its stupid when you're a fanboy like Ian said. Its like the GTA games I have a problem when a person thinks it kicks ass because you can run over women. Well I don't have a problem when someone understands the concept of why this game is awesome. The former needs to be hit in the head and be told that just because you have to ability to run over bitches doesn't mean it will be fun.

The difference between a fan and a fanboy is that the fan merely likes something, the fanboy holds it like a god and considers any criticism or opposition to it as an insult. A fanboy doesn't buy other companies' products simply because they aren't from his master, sometimes making up wild excuses (but EA doesn't care about gamers, they only care about money!) and developing idiosyncracies (Online sucks, I want my games without online!). A fan (not a hooligan!) would not exactly consider it a sin to buy other companies' products as well, they just like one company or product more and if they had to choose they'd take it over many others.
Fanboy means taking fandom over the top. At least consoles don't have to deal with hooligans yet.

Ok maybe your "New Age" definition. Although I don't know how you would explain a person who likes xbox and gamecube but is angry that Tecmo creates games for a non-japanese console and not on a system like gamecube.

I guess I thought it was outrageous because these Killzone fans (who haven't played the game yet) are the opposite of a lot of Nintendo fans, nowadays, rising to protect their whatever. Still I thought it was funny that people who hadn't played the game yet had that much to say about gameplay, etc... ^_^

I didn't say GTA sucks. I'm more accepting of xbox and gcn fanboys. I find it hard to hate a gcn fanboy since its hard for them to fight back especially with a gcn.

I have a feeling that the new PS2 does even less damage upon impact. But not even the XBox has a chance against my 386 "notebook".

For some reason I find Nintendo fanboys to be the worst of the three. They take EVERYTHING to heart and never let things go, PS2 fanboys will completely forget about Killzone in a few weeks when another big title comes out (MGS 3).

Could it be because Nintendo fanboys don't get as many games to drool over to begin with? No, Nintendo fanboys get lots of games to drool over. Last time I checked, the GBA was still made by Nintendo. SCORE.

But really, I disagree with DrZ on the worst fanboys. I mean, Nintendo fanboys tend to be very loud and they overreact alot, but I think that has become a Pavlovian response to the crap Nintendo, their fans, and their games have had to take for a great many years. Sometime around 1998, sombody somewhere said Nintendo was kiddy, or something. And that would be ok, just fine, peachy, real dandy... except nowadays that seems to be the only thing reviewers measure games on. And everybody just loves to sit around and predict doom for the company, even when their executives, their stockholders, and their profits state the obvious truth. It's kind of part and parcel to that. The only way to respond is loudly, and if you don't respond in that way, the lie will go around unchallenged until it becomes the "truth." The case here is that, assuming that KillZone was reviewed based upon its merits as a video game, then the PS2 fans really don't have a beef. It's not like they give it a 7.9 for not having kart skins and not being online while beeing kiddy, right? Or like they gave it a 6 or 5 and said that "we really like Paper Mario 2, but since it is kiddy and joe casual probably won't appreciate it, we'll score it lower."

P.S. I'm curious as to what "damage" needed to be controlled as pertaining to Rare, Ben.
