Any word on the style of the ad campain. Will it be in the style of "Who Are You", or will it be on a larger scale and scope.

I haven't heard or seen jack squat on the matter. But Nintendo had better push this game hard. I'm talking a sales push the likes of which we haven't seen since....man Nintendo sucks at advertising. I can't think of a good example.

Yea a month away, and the sequels to some of the biggest selling games of the past generation are coming out at the same time. Do they know they're competing with them?

There's seems to be a distinct lack of hype for a game of this importantace.  Maybe the just didn't turn the hype machine on yet. With the Ds Launch and MP2 @ just about the same time maybe they will somehow link the two of them together to make a larger impact. Hopefully...

They are pushing Prime2 the same way the pushed Prime1.  They are giving away a Metroid Prime DS game.  Last time they released a GBA Metroid.  I think the free game idea is a great idea, but it makes me wonder what they could do as far as a complete 3d Metroid on the DS.

Nintendo does need to launch an aggresive add campaign.  The commercial will probably stick with the "Who Are You?" thing.  In the Pikmin 2 commercial they used two guys, I believe in the MP2 commercial they should use four girls.  Sell the sex like its Budweiser.  They are competing with two very adult oriented games.

I have an idea for a DS commercial.  People could be playing pool at a bar and someone has a DS.  The ball could be hit into the corner pocket and the camera could follow it as it goes down the tracks inside the table.  As the ball enters the darkness there is a subtle eddit to game play where Samus is in ball form in a pipe with wild lighting effects.

"Yea a month away, and the sequels to some of the biggest selling games of the past generation are coming out at the same time. Do they know they're competing with them?"

How much does Metroid Prime 2 really compete with those games though?  Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, GTA: San Andreas, etc. are not available on the Cube.  Out of all of the big sequels for this Christmas the new Prince of Persia is really the only other one that's going to the Cube.  For people who only own a Cube (which would thus be major Nintendo fans) Metroid Prime 2 faces very little competition.  The only problem is regarding fans who own multiple consoles.  I think the situation is far worse on the other two consoles though which each have at least two very high profile exclusives that are going to directly cut into each other's sales.

Still Nintendo should do some agressive advertising.  Metroid Prime was considered by several web sites and magazines as Game of the Year 2002.  That should be played up since in the world of marketing the sequel should be even better.  It's a shame this game doesn't really improve the visuals much (at least compared to Halo 2).  They had a huge chance to show of the first Metroid Prime's graphics in their ads since at the time it was one of the best looking games around.  But they blew it.  Still Metroid Prime 2 does look really great and I would show a lot of game footage in the ad.  There's a stupid misconception that the Cube has weak graphic capabilities and a lot of that is likely because Nintendo "hides" game footage too much in their ads.

Oh and get whoever does the GBA ads to do the Metroid Prime 2 ads.  It's completely idiotic for the GBA to always get the better ads when the Cube is the struggling system that needs strong marketing.

Available on the Cube means zero, I think the estimated percentage of Cube owners that own at least one of the other two onsoles is as high as 95%. I only have a gameworthy PC in addition to the Cube aqnd there's still plenty to choose from.

Me I don't care about Halo 2, HL 2, MGS3 or GTASA and only have slight interest in MP2 but I'm no average punter.

I was at my local EB games yesterday, when a lady from Nintendo came into the store.
I am guessing she was a sales rep, but don't know for sure.
I never got a chance to talk to her,  but I was able to over hear her lengthly conversation with the store manager.
Here is a summary.

She asked how pre-orders of Metroid Prime 2 were going.
The reply was very, very poorly. We hope they pick up as the date nears.

She asked how did they compare to GTA San Andreas, and Halo 2.
The reply was that those 2 games are out pre-ordering Prime by 20-1

She then asked about Paper Mario.
He said first day sales were again much slower than expected.

She then asked about Tiger Woods 2005. SHe said I see you have a lot for PS2 and X-box.
The reply was yes, we got about 25 of each, and 1, yes 1, copy for the cube.

The rest was simply sales rhetoric.

I just want a dope ad campaign. The 1st Metroid Prime had that 60 Sec. Live-action slash in game footage masterpiece that is second only to The Ocarina Of Time campaign from 1998. "Who Are You" just won't cut it for me this time.

Hype goes a long way. Sure its shallow but this is the days and times we live in.

PoP2, MGS3, Halo2, KillZone, GTA5, Mp2, HL2, GrandTurismo4 this a list of AAA titles, one console or 4 they are competing.

Other than GTA, which is astounding if your anecdotal evidence is true, OF COURSE Halo will be pre-ordered more than MP2.

In addition to being the only game worth having on the Xbox this last quarter </fanboy> this game has quite possibly been the most hyped game in history, and it was available for pre-order since the end of 2002.

You know what?  I'm tired of this horse race crap.  I'm glad if some games sell well enough to make a profit, and saddened if they get neglected and forgotten like BG&E, but other than that I just do not give a damn.

In fact I just think this whole "gotta be number 1" crap is what is making some games become neglected.  The next victim?  I say PoP2.  If you think PoP2 will sell a truckload this holiday, you will be sorely mistaken when it gets overlooked again for exactly the same reason as last year.

MP2 won't sell as well, of course. I mean, what is it? A semi-sequel, a game that uses pretty much the same graphics and gameplay as the previous one, just with the obligatory more weapons and more levels. Realy, I'm not hyped up for the game simply because to me it doesn't seem like something that new. I have MP already, what do I need Prime 2 for?

Halo 2 seems to be a bigger jump than Prime 2 and I heard San Andreas is getting PC zealots to convert to Sony. I still haven't found a single title I'm looking forward to this christmas season (not entirely true, I want Mario vs Donkey Kong, but that doesn't count as a major release).

How about we wait for reviews and see if that opinion holds.

I doubt Retro's planning a cookie-cutter sequel. Just call it a hunch. If the Dark Suit is expendable information, I'm sure there's a lot more fancy stuff in there.

Well, preorders depend mainly on hype and to me the hype for MP2 is pretty much zero. Result? Few preorders.

How can you possibly say that Metroid Prime 2 is too cookie-cutter but GTA: San Andreas and Halo 2 aren't?  The Halo franchise is cookie cutter.  It's a total by-the-book FPS.  GTA: San Andreas is going to be like Vice City: a very competent sequel that adds a few new things but ultimately plays the same.  Metroid Prime 2 at least looks like it's trying to change things up with the light/dark world stuff.

All three sequels are going to play pretty similar to their predecessor and all three are going to add some new stuff to freshen things up a bit.  It's quite unfair to accuse one of being too similar and not the other two.

I'm hyped about Metroid Prime 2 Echos. Multiplayer! COME ON, this is going to be awesome. Besides, my favorite game of all time uses Light and Dark worlds. I'm sure you all can guess it.

As far as hype for the holiday seasons goes, I am all DS, I simply cannot wait.

Ok, just a few things

I'm not sure if linking like this is allowed...but whatever. Read this:

punks. There you go, that's what you can be looking forward too. Personally I think it looks awesome...much more satisfying than getting fat and killing innocent people in GTA. Cookie cutter sequel? Maaaaaaybe...but at least this one looks like it's got some awesome sprinkles...and missles that fire out of your arm cannon.

What a lot of people mistake metroid for is an action game. The metroid games have never been action based. They've always been exploration/puzzlers, you really cannot confuse it with anything else. I mean, not to downplay the awesome action in the game, that's just the root of the series.

?

What's wrong with that?

By "9.8-rated", they obviously mean an implied "by us" in there.

By "classic", they obviously mean the kind of game only retards would hate.
