be?If GTA wasn't exclusive would it be on GC?
« on: February 11, 2003, 04:29:09 PM »
I was just thinking about this during Physics today. If Sony didn't have that GTA exclusivity would GTA be on Gamecube? I, personally, don't see why it wouldn't but maybe Rockstar(north?) has said in a interview that Gamecube is kiddy or something? I know that this game would for sure be on Xbox but would the Gamecube also be worthy of it?

It would probable be on all three consoles. GTA was on the Dreamcast. Rockstar North has nothing against the GameCube. They were on the Dream Team for n64.

The Ps2, Xbox and PC can keep GTA for all I care. I'm one of the few persons that actually hates it. I wouldn't like to see it on Gamecube.

Well, because it was popular on PlayStation first, obviously Rockstar agreed to a deal with Sony.
But if there was no deal? Well, maybe it would be on Gamecube. But thing is, Rockstar haven't exactly supported Gamecube all that well. The only game I know from them is Smuggler's Run Warzones.

But are you f**king s**ting me? Rockstar (North) was on Nintendo Dream Team? Wow....

But yeah, I reckon would be on all three console, but on PS2 and Xbox first. After six months, THEN they're gonna release it on Gamecube, so that would assure poor sales, giving them a reason for them not to make games on Gamecube. Lots of developers do this. Konami being the forerunner.

You mixed up a few developers.

Rockstar North (DMA Design) makes the GTA series. They made Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley for the n64.

Rockstar San Diego (Angel Studios, another Dream Team member) made Smuggler's Run Warzones for the GameCube. They made the ken griiffey games and resident evil 2 for n64.

So there are DIFFERENT companies with the name Rockstar in it, or are these just subsidaries of one big Rockstar company?

Rockstar is a big company. Rockstar bought DMA Design and Angel Studios and renamed them. It is like Nintendo renaming Retro to Nintendo West or Silicon Knights to Nintendo Canada.

What a big empire Nintendo would have if they bought Rockstar and Capcom eh?

i can honestly say i hate gta now. i played gta3 into the ground on the ps2, and there is just nothing that impresses me in gtavc. i know a couple other people that dont really like it too. but by the time it can come to all consoles it will be dead, unless they can think of something that really innovates the game.

I think the general stigma of "Nintendo is kiddy" would hurt GTA's chances of ever being on Gamecube.  There are a lot of mature titles that have appeared on PS2 and XBox but not Gamecube so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same way with GTA.  Didn't Rockstar make Max Payne?  That appeared on everything but Gamecube.  I might be getting publishers and developers all mixed up.

It's kind of a moot point since GTA is exclusive to PS2 so no matter what it isn't coming to Gamecube.  It's like asking "if Mario wasn't exclusive what consoles would it be on"?

I thought it wouldn't physically be possible to have GTA on GC because of all the uncompressed digital quality music in the game. I thought I heard that it takes almost the whole of the 4 gigs of the PS2 disc. What would be the point of having this game with either 3 songs or internet quality sound?

I wouldn't mind internet quality...well the songs i download off the net sound fine. If you really listen to the music in GTA it isn't that high quality.

what they could do is when u go to different sections of the cities, u just po in different disc. it could be 2 or 3 dics. i think it would be possible.

But then it wouldn't feel as free roaming, if you had to get off the couch to change a disc every so often.

2 Discs for PC, but then the second disc is filled with the music.
Is it possible for the gamecube disc to be more than 1.5 gb?

It might be possible, just look at Dreamcasts GD-discs.

2 Discs for PC, but then the second disc is filled with the music.

But PC games usually uncompress the data and save it onto the harddrive, so if it was uncompressed (unless there was some serious texture compression, DivX, etc...that the GameCube is capable of) it might go up to 3 discs which would be a little bit more than the 1.5 gig GC disc. But anyways, interesting that it isn't 4 gig (I guess I heard wrong). (Either that or the PS2 version is just sloppily programmed and the PC version was streamlined.)

there coul;d be more the 3 songs i think. look at tony hawk 3. there are about 20 sings. and madden 2003 as well as nascar 2003 has loads of songs.i mena the songs on gta get quite repetative as it is on the ps2. i dont think it would be a big deal and that would be the least of their problems. i dont care anywas cuz if i wanted  it i would buy it for pc.

If GTA wasn't Sony exclusive it would be multi-platform or Xbox only ( Micorosoft exclusivity deal instead of Sony ).
