Nintendo DS Network
The biggest technological innovation in gaming since the first coming of 3D gaming...

This is looking like major news, and the whisperings and hints being dropped in our ears. We are not sure if this is the Demasked project or not, but we do not what the project is, what it does and what it means for gaming, and to be quite honest it is amazing!

This news is something that should be breaking across the gaming industry in a few days or so, but we have managed to get hold of a few details first and from this we have been able to work out exactly what is going on.

Ever since the DS was announced we have known that it will be able to communicate with other units without wires, but it turns out that this isn't the half of it. With the Nintendo DS users will be able to pluck information 'out of thin air'. So technically you could download new levels, high-scores, news...everything, from the air around you. No cables, no 'download' stations, just you, a DS and...thin air.

We are hearing that Nintendo will be able to communicate with all DS' in the world to send out updates, requested software and just about anything that they store. You will also be able to play against anyone on any game, so long as you or they (or anyone else involved in the multiplayer match-up at the time) has a copy of the game, everyone else will download the information they need out of thin air and be able to play the game regardless of if they own it or not.

We don't have a clue how it works, but we know what it means: the Nintendo DS will provide one of the biggest instant networks in the world...ever. We recommend you buy a winch for your jaw as more on this amazing news comes out over the next few days...

Uhmm....technologically that would mean something similar to a cell phone network, and somehow I highly doubt nintendo has secretively set up a digital phone like network...

If this were to be believed at all, the guys who wrote it are a little confused and that all that wouldn't work "anywhere" but only in places with 802.11 wireless....

I call Hit Grubbing Liers....but we'll see...

Hmmmmm...I ponder...

Couldn't this mean that if Nintendo were to be nice to us and set up a server, we would technically be able to play online without a router/hotspot/anything?

well if they made a server, they would have to make alot more than one, definately alot more than one!

As I think that the DS will be hands down the "Holiday Seller".  Nothing will even compare not even past "Holiday Seller" Tickle me Elmo.

I remember reading how many DS systems have been made and will be shipped for World Wide Launch and IMO there will be shortages in many areas, i suggest reserving a DS, I know i have!

NONONO.  downloading new levels is teh suck.  Its what's starting to kill xbox games now.  "lets make a sucky game and promise new levels down the road." It doesn't work on consoles and will work less on a handheld.

hmmm... something related to warpipe by any chance (again)? even if this is for real, which I highly doubt, I know it wont be "around the world", it will thirve in the States and Japan, posibly europe, maybe Australia, but here in latinamerica it wouldnt be implemented, so I couldnt care less, now if Ninty surprises me with great news I might even buy a DS at launch, even with such a high price ($150 dollars is A LOT of money here)

That doesn't make any sense.  So I play a game and beat it.  Now I look to replay value and adding more levels is worse than simply playing the game again?

I think the complaint is about companies who release a sucky-to-halfway decent game and say "Oh, we'll give you more levels later!"... and never do...
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

But the point is that the concept is then abused...

It's like alcohol...It's not bad persay, but many people abuse it...In the end, it gives alcohol a worse rap than it deserves...

Even though the concept of downloadable extras can be abused I think it's still worth including for the games that do make good use of it.  Expansions for PC games have been abused.  GBA connectivity has been abused (many devs merely use it to make you buy the GC and GBA game in order to unlock stuff).  Pretty much the freedom to make videogames has been abused by companies like Acclaim.  But for all those potentail negatives we still have Blizzard releasing worthwhile expansions, Team Ninja offering refinements to Ninja Gaiden, and Nintendo using connectivity to give us Four Swords Adventures.  All three of those examples show that even if something has the potential to be abused it's worth it for the benefits.

And it's not like the "abuse" is that bad anyway.  If someone abused alcohol they could potentially kill you by driving under the influence.  The worst that "downloadable extras abuse" can do is that they could rip you off.  Don't like it?  Don't buy it?  Companies only dick you around if you let them.

That's why you don't buy crappy 3rd party games and you don't become an alchoholic.
