Astro Boy: Omega Factor
« on: September 04, 2004, 09:36:05 PM »
Holy crap! Has anyone else played this game? It's by Treasure, and it should be called Viewtiful Joe Advance.

The basic gameplay is sort of a beat'em up, kind of like Viewtiful Joe. Not as good as Viewtiful Joe, mind you, but still awesome. There are also some shmup levels.

The biggest problem is that it's short, but that's really expected from a Treasure game at this point. It also suffers from some pretty nasty slowdown at times.

Still, it's probably my favorite 3rd party game in my GBA game collection at this point.

yeah astro boy is probably the best gba game to come out this year thus far- its just loads of fun (what do you expect from treasure) and the game is pretty deep- yeah its a little short, but there is so much to do- finding all the characters, powering up astro all the way, hell just getting the highest score in the levels- just so much fun- i cant wait for advance guardian heros now!
i call the big one bitey.

"Ninty needs to take in Treasure as a second party"

YES!  YES!  I agree 100%!

Seriously Nintendo could just buy Treasure and tell them to make whatever they wanted and it would greatly help them fill up gaps in the release schedule and provide some instant variety to Nintendo's lineup.  Plus it would attract hardcore gamers.  Nothing that would really change the console wars but it every little bit helps.  Include Radiant Silvergun as a pack-in game for the Revolution and every hardcore gamer nut on the internet would buy it.

As for Astro Boy, I haven't played it yet but I'm very interested in it.  I'll probably get it used sometime in the future.

The strange thing is, didn't Nintendo refer to Treasure as a second party at one point?

I distinctly remember that Nintendo refused to say who was developing Wario World at one point, only to say that is was being made by a Nintendo second party. Weird. Maybe some plans to buy out Treasure fell through.

And they NEED to release Contra as part of the classic NES series. I would actually be willing to pay $20 for that game.

The way i've heard that quote explained is Nintendo said something like "We are currently working with a second party on this game," second party not being used in the video game sense, but in the other sense. Meaning the were working with another party besides themselves.
Sorry, this post was horribly written.....

I agree too, and it probably wouldn't cost that much at all, compared to other companies of similar talent and name recognition.  As for having them make whatever they wanted, I would rather have Treasure have more free will, Wario is a good game, but Treasures original stuff is better.  Focus on what they do best.

As for Astro Boy on gba, I've read nothing but great things.  It's nice to see a third party game that is so good on gba.  I'm very much interested in Advance Guardian Heroes, I never got to play GH on Saturn or was it DC, I forget lol, but I remember it was a killer app.  Anyways, I've read that AGH suffers from slowdown currently, but I'm sure they'll polish it up to where it doesn't matter, like in AB, which supposedly has some but isn't that bad at all.

Joeamis, I think what Ian meant by "Tell them to make whatever they want," he meant "Tell Treasure to make whatever Treasure wants" not "Have Treasure make whatever Nintendo wants."

Yeah that's what I meant.  Looking at it again it is worded a little awkwardly.  Do you honestly think I want more Wario World?  Nintendo buying a company just to boss them around is a waste of time since it would fail to provide any variety.

I think that's why Nintendo has given up on second parties.  It wasn't working out because Nintendo wants to boss the companies around.  Fortunately Nintendo seems to have realised that bossing them around doesn't produce particularly good games (DK 64, Wario World, Starfox Adventures); unfortunately NIntendo doesn't seem to be interested in keeping them if it can't boss them around.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Yeah, but you are forgetting good second-party/third party relations...Particularly Metroid Prime(Retro was still second-party) and Mario Tennis...

I think Nintendo realizes that Treasure is better off as a third-party. They make better games that way.

I remember hearing somewhere that Treasure didn't want to be second-party. Is that right, or is my imagination flaring up again?

Could be that Paladin.  Even though Treasure isn't a second party to Nintendo, they seem to be giving it alot of love.  I've heard that the PS2 version was an abomination.  Let's just hope that the whiny crybabies don't get wind of Ikaruga's splendor and then end up getting it with more stuff.  Plus they'd also get Radiant Silvergun with it AND probably a BABY difficulty.

This is like the worst possible scenario I can think of.  We get crummy games because of Nintendo's attitude towards second parties so to fix this problem instead of changing their retarded attitude they drop the second party system outright.  So instead of us getting some crummy second party games and some great second party games we get less games overall period.  WOW!  With this sort of genius problem solving I'm sure it's just a coincedence that the Cube is in last place in North America.

Ya, the PS2 version didn't do so well, I forget who made it, was it Sega?  Or did Sega just publish it?  I doubt that Ikargua will get ported this generation, one of the main reasons it came to Cube was because of the design of the game it was extremely easy to port to the GC.

Oh man, I re-picked this one up.  Anyone actually complete this thing?  When I played it the first time, I made it to the very, very end, I think, where you have to beat stronger versions of all the bosses.  I played on hard, but I was wondering, do you get the "Rebirth" mode if you play through on normal?  It's just too tough on hard at that point, and I can't get past it.  I even completed the grid of people, I think, and I still wasn't good enough.
