Title Overload
« on: August 26, 2004, 05:04:43 PM »
You proably all heard of the massive number of good titles coming our way this christmas season.  With Paper Mario, Mario Tennis,Viewtiful Joe2, Metroid Prime2, Mario Party 6, Mortal Kombat(not sure if its coming this year or not), and holdovers Pikmin 2,X-Men,Madden 2005 and get on the Mic and get on the floor seem kinda fun, along with the multitude of GBA games do you think Ninty is throwing to much at us at one time.  And they still want us to purchase a DS.  A teen like myself doesnt know what to do seeing he can proably only get 1 maybe 2 new games.  Though there is something for everyone here, what do you guys think are they overloading us too much

Darn college anyway.  I don't get to buy any of these at launch.  (I am thinking and pondering to see what I can do to get Prime 2 though.  Always pondering)  Think about it though, if you could wait one year all the money you would save.  I've bought dozens of games at their launch, and IGN says I have some 250 dollars worth of stuff.  That's really pathetic for the grand I've sunk into it...

no wonder RE4 was set for next year instead of cramming itself into the holiday season.  In my case i will definately be broke.  I will indeed buy alot of DS stuff, system, games, accessories.  Paper Mario seems to be the only game i will pick up due to saving up for the DS.

I'm only going to get Metroid Prime 2 this christmas - Everything else can wait for a while.

The DS being out in Europe in "2005" will leave me loads of time to save up.

That was my thinking too. But try telling that to IGN. They make it look like the game is going to do terribly because it's not being released in the flood of games in November.

You know this title is about as anticipated as WW was for the Gamecube, and it didn't hurt it to released in the off season. It accually probally helped it because there was nothing else competing for money.

I personally think that releasing a game in November is idiocy unless you have THE game for that console that everyone is anticipating.  Otherwise you just get lost in the shuffle.  Capcom is smart.  They know that Metroid Prime 2 is the game for Cube owners this Christmas.  They also know that with Cube owners that also own PS2s and Xboxes they have to compete with GTA: San Andreas and Halo 2.  Why would you willingly compete with those three monster games?  RE4 is going to stand alone when it's released and it will get all of the attention to itself.

If I made games I would release major titles in July.  No one releases games during that time and people complain that there's no games to play during the summer.  Seems like a perfect opportunity to me.  Movies have summer blockbusters so why not games?

Even analysts say this is going to be the worst christmas slaughter ever. They predict that even major titles will take big hits due to the overcrowding and only HL2, Halo 2 and STALKER (okay, not sure on that last bit) are going to come out of this unscathed.

I think RE4 would have done really well this Christmas...Metroid Prime 2 is the only serious competition for it on the GameCube, although I won't deny that some of the other console titles like Halo 2 and Grand Theft Auto might hurt it.  At any rate, I agree that releasing an unknown game at Christmas is not usually a good idea.

Is Mario Tennis really going to be ready for Christmas?  I need that game.  Personally, I'll be buying Pikmin 2, Paper Mario 2 and maybe a couple of the "weird" titles; everything else can go on my list or wait until next year.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I'm at college and am thus far Cubeless.  However, soon as a new game I want comes out. . . have no doubt that there will be a cube here, ready and willing and thoroughly played.

ninty has soooo many good games this winter....holy crap. If I had the money...gah...I might get one or two titles, but everything else will have to wait. I bet paper mario, mario tennis, viewtiful joe 2, and pop2 will all get shafted majorly....which is a TERRIBLE shame...

Hostile Creation get Tales of symphonia and CUBE while u can, currently Sony and Micro$oft have stopped shipments of systems in order to clear their warehouses (Nintendo did this already earlier) who knows whats gonna happen during the holiday season, PLUS! Tales of Symphonia out right rocks if you are into RPG's that is.

Paper Mario and Mario Tennis will sell very well I think, Viewtiful Joe 2 should do as good as the first one did.

I just realized, REzero came out the same month and Metroid Prime did.  Are there any numbers to show how well that game did or didn't do in its first month?  It would be interesting to see, and figure if the game may have done better had it been released in the spring.  Just a thought.

Well it did ok, sold around 200k first month, i think, and its at well over 400k now. Also, RE2 launched in January and it's the highest selling RE game to date.
