This is more like a woman having insufficient security on her home, and then blaming her if criminals break into her house and rape her.  Well of course the rape is directly her fault!  If only she had paid for sufficient security to prevent such things!  What nonsense.   ::)

I agree with what Uncle Bob just said: Sony isn't the victims, the consumers were. If you don't do enough for your own security and you get hurt because of that you only have yourself to blame, but in this case even though Sony got hurt, others got hurt as well. So that's what makes this different than your analogy.
is your sanity...

Saying the hotel is responsible for their bad decisions that allowed the chain of events to happen is merely common sense.

Certainly.  In that situation, the hotel would presumably be prosecuted for their negligence to the fullest extent of the law.  However, that does not absolve the murderer of his crime, which seems to be the sticking point here.  People seem to want to absolve the PSN hackers of their crime by putting all the blame on Sony, seemingly with the motto of "well, hackers 'gotta hack!  Whatever they do to your systems is your fault."  The committed a crime, and they deserve to be found and punished for it.

Can you provide a direct quote from anyone here on the forums where they've said the hackers aren't responsible for their actions?
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I'm sure I could if I combed through the last 3-4 topics in the past 8 months where this issue was discussed.  But right now, just everyone saying Sony was responsible (and seemingly solely so)  for the PSN hacks is enough for me.

We're saying SONY is responsible because there are those who keep defending SONY's actions and calling SONY the victim.  We believe this to be wrong and ignorant of the facts, so we correct it.
