Edmund McMillen’s most recent title, The Binding of Isaac, may be coming to the Nintendo 3DS. According to McMillen, an unknown publisher is currently asking Nintendo for permission to port the PC game to the handheld. Additionally, Edmund stated that The Binding of Isaac is only being considered for release on the 3DS and would not be ported to iOS or other consoles.
The Binding of Isaac has the player take control of Isaac, a little boy who must navigate dungeons reminiscent of those in the original Legend of Zelda in order to escape from his homicidal mother. The game’s story is heavily influenced by the Biblical story in the book of Genesis that shares its name; however, this time the Abrahamic god instead calls upon Isaac’s mother to do the awful deed.
There is currently no word as to whether the game will be a retail or an eShop release. Nevertheless, past precedent involving other indie ports, such as VVVVVV, suggest that it will be a downloadable title. The publisher behind the port may even turn out to be Nicalis, the same publisher that ported Cave Story, VVVVVV, and NightSky to the system.
