College
« on: March 07, 2011, 02:16:48 PM »
It's about time for me to start looking at/applying for college, since I start my Senior year in 6 months (holy ****... :P: ) So I'm wondering where did you all go to college, and what made you choose it over your other options?

Brevard Community College baby! I'll have my AA shortly and plan on going to UCF for a bachelor's in computer science.

LOL The good ole BCC. I used to throw racket balls on the racket courts they used to have there as a kid. I don't think they are there anymore. Really just giant concrete walls...

Used to live in Sherwood Park there across from the BCC. Went to kindergarten and 1st grade at Sherwood Elementary. Learned to swim at the public pool there. Been long number of years since I've been there though. No idea what is still there.

When I was going to school there, there was no air conditioning. Fun fact.

Sorry about hijacking a thread of college with memories of elementary school...

I didn't go to college. I got my A+ Cert for computer repair on my own, learned HTML, ASP, and PHP on my own, learned Photoshop on my own, and have been designing web sites for over 10 years. I would like to go to school for some more advanced computer engineering, designing circuit boards and whatnot. Or some advanced programming skills like writing AI routines.

Went to Northern Illinois University for my undergrad in Operations Management degree.

Chose it because it was a good business school.  Also because it was close enough to home that I could get back in a few hours, but far enough away that I didn't have to worry about family popping in all the time.

One other reason I chose my college was that none of my friends were going there.  Don't get me wrong, I loved all my friends, and still speak with most of them today, but I wanted to force myself to go out and socialize/make new friends to build my social skills, and I knew that if I had friends at the college I went to, that I would mostly hang around the same group of people.

Regardless of where you choose, make sure you choose the college based off of what YOU want, not anyone else.  I know several people that chose their college because their GF/BF at the time was going there.  All of them are broken up now, and some of them dropped out because they couldn't deal with it.

I went to Arizona Western College for my associates degree, and then I went to the University of Arizona for my Bachelors. Luckily your ahead of the curb. When I got to college I had no real intention into going, and it took me a long while to figure out what the hell was going on. I ended up being the first one of my friends to finish, mainly because I didn't dick around as much. Listen to Lolmonade, whatever you do don't go to a place because your GF/BF is going. I had the chance to go to Collins college after i got my associates, and im pretty sure I would have completed it just fine. In hindsight it would have benefited me in the long run to go to a place that hooks you up with a workplace when your done. Otherwise its all searching, and the economy right now is bad. Luckily for you it should be fine when your done.

Well, I'm usually one of the people who doesn't screw around that much. I can get really lazy sometimes, but I'm working on that, and going to take 4 APs next year to compliment the three I'm working on right now. I'm looking at mostly in-state schools (UW, SPU, Gonzaga) and got a magazine thing from the Indiana University of Penn, which is intriguing. Going to look into that one soon.

I am now a freshman at Seton Hall University. I am majoring in Diplomacy, and minoring in Mandarin, philosophy, and economics.

I picked Seton Hall because of its unique take on the Diplomacy curriculum, its proximity to the UN, and a hefty scholarship. It's a long way away from Chicago, but you can't beat a full ride.

Just try to find a place which really has a great program for your major.

I picked UCSB over Cal Poly just because Cal Poly forced you to pick a major when you go in and make it difficult to switch.  However with the cost of school now you probably want to chose your major before you go in anyway.  Santa Barbara had other perks as well.  Ocean access, good engineering school, and girls sunbathing out front of the dorms.

I am currently attending Mercyhurst College. It's a really good school, and one of the best in the nation in a few very specific areas. If you want to be a CIA analyst, an archaeologist, a forensic anthropologist, or play women's ice hockey, this is definitely the place to be.
