I've always wondered if Chinatown Wars didn't do as well due to it's association with that infamous Wii Music focused E3.  We were all "Hey Nintendo!  Where the **** are the games?" and they were all "Uhhhh, we got GTA?"  And we were all "what this DS game where all you have is a fucking logo? **** YOU!"  And then Miyamoto made up some bullshit about Pikmin to try to calm us down. :)  Makes you wonder if Chinatown Wars' unfortunate first impression turned off some of the target market.

Or more likely it's simpy the fact that in screenshots Chinatown Wars looks like the old style topdown GTA.  I always figured it was until someone pointed out it wasn't.  So I didn't care since like most of the world I have no attachment to oldschool GTA.  The series became big with the third game.

I also tend to associate portable versions of non-Japanese franchises with garbage.  When EA and Ubisoft make absolute junk with the portable versions of their console games why would you assume Rockstar would be the exception?  Chinatown Wars had an uphill battle from day one and Rockstar did little to help it with that.

To be fair, EA and Ubisoft's efforts on the consoles (at least the Wii, anyway) are also complete and utter garbage. So to say their portable efforts are garbage isn't really saying alot. Have you seen the wall of shame thread?  Those were all Wii console games of "Surfing Petz" and "Cooking Sports" type crap.

These same companies also tend to treat the DS as the same sort of landfill that they do with the Wii, but not all companies are like that. Rockstar has made very little on any Nintendo platforms, but AFAIK what they have made on Nintendo platforms has been of acceptable quality.

And I think that's why GTA Chinatown is proving to have such long legs. A lot of people were probably thinking the same way you are that since it is on a handheld it was going to be a piece of ****, but word of mouth tells a different story.

There's also that some games just play better on a home system than a portable. Grand Theft Auto seems like one such game.

Why can't Rockstar port over the older GTA games to the Wii? They've done this with Bully already, and that worked out for them, didn't it?

I can understand concerns about profits, but porting a game requires very minimal resources. Hell, they don't even necessarily have to add new motion controls for it if they don't want to. But they should make it happen because it will sell and it won't cost much for them to do it.

I want something new set in the GTA 4 generation of the series. Should the game take place in Liberty City, or some where else?

half of sales is name recognition and marketing

GTA is a series that would sell well on Wii. The Resident Evil games sell well on Wii (even crap ones) simply because they have Resident Evil in their title(although the second gun game was FAIL..fool me once), so GTA being an M rated title has no effect on sales.

Can't they just make good games?

Too bad most of the time they don't and make shovelware.  Not Nintendo's or our fault they dragged their own names through the mud.

GTA wii should take place in a rendition of Chicago and be set in the GTA 4 generation. New characters would be introduced along with a good story.

After play No More Heroes 2, I am confident that GTA wii would be an absolute power house. If Rockstar used the same graphics engine, mainly for characters, that game would be awesome. Splice in some Reident evil 4  wii controls, a good, compelling story, amd a giant over world. Hell, I would buy the game on day one.

I'd love to see a Chicago GTA.  Especially if they set it in the 70's or 80's when the mob was strong.  Modern day could be cool too.  As long as Ditka makes a cameo.

20s and 30s would have been a better time for Chicago, I think.

Yeah, a GTA Chicago game centered around the prohibition with Al Capone would definitely be interesting.
