Damn, at least 2010 should be great for gaming :(
« on: July 31, 2009, 03:45:00 PM »
Delays--one right after then other.  It's going a freaking drought this winter and an easy win for GOTY since all the big hits have been delayed until spring 2010.

Think all my 2009 picks have finally fallen into 2010 though I called EB and they still honoring my Red Steel 2 bundle with motion control plus (they made a mistake and listed it at $40 instead of $60 :) ).

RE and Deadspace is still coming and my cuz is going love TMNT but it's a going be slow year compared to last.

I still say let them delay games as much as they need.

I've seen too many games that were rushed and ultimately wound up sucking.

True that.

I don't mind delays as long as it's just but I really wish developers would crack down release dates within a year at least.

NSMB Wii is the only game (other than GoW and MW:2) that I'm looking forward too.

This wouldn't be so bad if we didn't, you know, just HAVE a drought.  For the second half of last year and the first half of this year, Nintendo was pretty much in full-on casual mode.  And then they followed it up by revealing some big core focused games at E3, that won't be released until next year.

So let's look at the core focused first party Wii lineup from the last two years.

March 9, 2008 - SSB Brawl
April 27, 2008 - Mario Kart Wii
September 22, 2008 - Wario Land
April 20, 2009 - Excitebots
May 18, 2009 - Punch-Out
Q4 2009 - NSMB Wii

Way to keep that three games a year pace up there, Nintendo.  But, hey, obviously casual focused stuff like non-games or NPC titles or gloried Cube ports like Animal Crossing don't affect Nintendo's development schedule in any way.

You know, because I was so competetive at Brawl I kept on and kept with that game. Then I got too competetive and now I'm done with it. I put down deadly creatures, conduit, and house of the dead(is that right) for it. Now I have no interest in going back for any of those games.

I would have thought by now I would have something else besides Zack and Wiki to finish. Sheash Nintendo, hopfuly by this time next year we will have a schedule similar to the one Galaxy, Metroid, and I think Mario kart were in, just back to back releases.

*ahem*

Unless EA decided to make it a 3rd Person Lightgun game instead of 1st person...that Dead Space footage looks like it comes from the original Dead Space, not Extraction.  Perhaps you might want to update that a bit.  I also notice Fragile in there, but the last I heard on that game they were going to "try" to get it out in 2009 but it was in no way certain.  I'd pretty much assumed that got delayed into 2010.

Newsflash there is going to be a drought for all systems this year, it is bad all around with key titles getting bumped into 2010. Heck I don't even know what I'm looking forward to anymore in regards to games for holiday of '09. Also if you seriously think the NPC stuff is the reason for the drought when it comes to a company as massive as Nintendo, you are being quite foolish and have zero understanding of business or game development. The fact is games like Animal Crossing City Folk were made at the same time as other games as well (this was revealed some time ago) by the same division. The NPC stuff would not have taken much man power and the same goes for the Metroid Prime Triliogy.

Believe it or not Nintendo likes money and I don't think they like paying people to just sit around and do nothing. This is just a slow year all around for the industry, and considering Nintendo seems to care less and less about the holiday season it isn't a huge surprise they only have a couple games lined up. Heck they even admitted they could have had Mario Galaxy 2 come out this year but delayed it instead. Nintendo is almost working the Wii launch schedule like VC where they are stretching it out even when it is most likely not necessary.

Also I know this is horrific, but development resources have went into Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus as well. Nintendo doesn't just make core titles and their resources are spread around to ::gasp:: casual centric games as well. It has nothing to do with NPC.

What casual mode? You make it sound like they made casual games in that time. They didn't.

look at it this way, imagine where the AAA efforts for the core are atm..  While nintendo has been on the retro/rehash bandwagon for a while now, i am sure they have been putting strong efforst into behind closed door games.   And at least now we are starting to see the A efforts from 3rds parties.. Now if we can just get pokemon i mean monster hunter here quickly!

I still remember the N64 days where we were lucky to get two core games a year (Heck two games period from Nintendo).

It seems pretty dang obvious to me that  Nintendo's studios are working on new games (some studios we don't even know what they are working on) and that NPC, Metroid Prime Triliogy are gap fillers. I definitely would hesitate to call Animal Crossing: CF a gap filler though considering that is a big franchise for them. Regardless of what you think of the amount of "new" in it, it still is an iteration in the series.

Nintendo has released Punch-Out, ExciteBots, and Wii Sports Resort so far this year. Then this holiday season we have NSMB: Wii along with Wii Fit Plus the next game in their extremely popular fitness series. Just because their new stuff doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean NPC or MPT are impacting game development much.

The fact is that this is an extremely slow year for all consoles with major games being pushed back into 2010.

It would be GREAT for MH3 if they can get it translated and released on US & Euro shores by late Nov.
Especially if it is released with the Black Wii like it is in Japan. MW2 would wish they had a Wii version at that point since the hardware charts would be almost laughable if you weren't looking at Nintendo hardware.

MH3 would soar to the top of the charts with ease if it came with a black wii, black wiimote, black nunchuck & black CCPro all for like ~$250 till the end of the year (limited edition bundle or limited time price).

It would do great even if they just have the MH3 w/ Black CCPro bundle for $60 sold next to the Black Wii (WiiSports/Resorts bundle - black wiimote, nunchuck & M+ included)

Ahhh, its so nice to want...

Its a 3rd party Christmas. Isn't this when "hardcore" games started selling and what not on the DS? Aren't we in the phase yet?  The Wii is just the DS process in hiding.

Not entirely, the Wii has a higher attach rate than the DS (i.e. Wii owners are less casual than DS owners!)
