Topic: Wii + DS = Next Handheld?

According to a recent patent filing Nintendo is looking to incorporate motion controls into it's next handheld. We've already seen this with games like WarioWare:Twisted, and a Kirby game of yesteryear that I can't remember the exact name of, but personally I'm not too excited.

I'm hoping the DS2 is just that, 2 screens, one (maybe both) a touchscreen, bigger screens than the DS1, same button layout with a decent analog stick, but perhaps it would retain it's D-pad for left handed controls, better graphics, and get rid of the GBA slot in favor of a GCN slot!

For me that would be ideal, hopefully this patent is just a test idea that will fail with it's test groups.

I want the next DS to be a smaller rectangle than the lite, and when opened, have just a giant screen split in half. When opened all the way, it becomes a flush slab of screen. It'll employ multiple touch points touchscreen technology and rumble (somehow).

All Nintendo needs to do is have a miniature wii-mote type stylus for the DS2. It would be like the big wii-mote, but obviously it couldn't have as many buttons because it would be tiny. It could however, also be used as a traditional stylus and would dock into the DS and charge inside of that dock.

you can slap whatever tech you want inside of the hand held, but just know that it consist of one multi-touch touchscreen and when in DS mode the screen is divided into an upper half and a lower half to retain DS functionality.

Well the Pokemon Mini handheld had an accelerometer years before the Wii came out.  The only game that I recall that used it had sound cues to tell you when to start and stop shaking.

Also I disapprove of that "TS" design because the screen is left exposed.

i didnt get what you were going for but i understand now.. uhm... i dont think i like it to be honest.. maybe its just my bias against flipping screends like the t-mobile sidekick.

Yeah, this is really lacklustre. But the Nintendo rep in one of the articles mentioning this said something to the lines of 'we patent hundreds of ideas each year, this is just one of them'. This one just happened to be more interesting than 'accelerometer-enabled haptic on-screen feedback' or any of the many technologies that could have a gaming application.
