It took me a while to realize...but Sheena and Zelos are "technically" secret characters.  mayhaps we should tag them, no?

They're on the box, if you're surprised that they join your party you weren't paying attention.

Personally, I recommend Skies of Arcadia above Tales.  Just a fantastic game - despite the fact that the battling is MUCH less fun than Tales, the whole game is exciting with a great, fun, and at times moving plot, fantastic characters, the world is really vibrant and HUGE and really ... I don't know, it's just great.  And the music is fantastic as well.

Tales has wonderful graphics, and the plot is fairly interesting, but the dialogue and the way it's portrayed really cheapen the experience.  Battling is of course awesome - it's the kind of game that's fun to play more than once because battling is not a chore, it's actually enjoyable.  Overall, it's not up to par with Skies... Skies is just unbeatable, really.  My favorite RPG - above Chrono Trigger and FF6.

Oh yeah, and I have a Tales of Symphonia question, seeing as the topic has come up:

How do you get costumes?  I didn't get any on my first play-through, so I want to get the costumes on my second (it's fairly nice having 2x EXP, so I don't need to worry too much about leveling - more time for sidequests).  Are they just Titles that are accompanied by appearance changes, or what?

The Tales of Symphonia system is extremely deep - I feel like I'm missing something all the time.  For example, I never cook - I barely have any recipes.  And the only combination attack I know how to use so far is Photon Tempest... or Ray Storm later on.

Costumes are titles accompanied by appearances, yes.

They tend to be rewards from amusing little sidequests.

Looking for good Cube RPGS...

For single player,
Tales and Skies are must haves, each are good in their own way

For second tier, I would have to say...
Baten Kaitos
FF:CC

And if your absolutely desperate for a Cube RPG try..
Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2
Evolution Worlds
Phantasy Star Online 3, a game that is vastly different from PSO 1+2

Haven't played Paper Mario yet, so I can't say anything about it.

Lost Kingdoms (2) is better than FFCC, might not have the graphics and the story is kinda weak but the gameplay is much better. FFCC is just exploiting very simple patterns in singleplayer, LK has at least some strategy to it. LK2 cheapens some parts of the deal but does away with random encounters which should already be worth a lot. Basically, LK2 doesn't superceed LK1, they're pretty different games.

PSO 3 is vastly different from PSO 1/2, yes, but it's not necessarily worse. Of course there's not much in terms of non-combat activity but hell, PSO1/2 was just one big grindfest so that's not much of a loss. The gameplay is kinda nice, though playing hive style as an Ark (TONS of small, cheap creatures) is kinda overpowered as you can't move after attacking and with a hive deck any fallen creature is replaced by another one immediately, before the enemy can move.
If you like MMORPGs and their repetitive mindless slaughter of random animals you might enjoy PSO1&2 but otherwise you'll just get bored in no time.

Yeah, Lost Kingdom 2 can be purchased for dirt cheap used too. Got mine at EB for $10, and it was more than worth that price... unlike the EA Bond games I got for that same price (bleh).
